LOS ANGELES TIMES: Rookie goaltender Martin Jones collected his seventh straight win as the Kings downed the San Jose Sharks 4-1. He also collected his first NHL point with an assist on Tyler Toffoli’s second period goal.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Looks like a new star is being born in Los Angeles. Jones’ performance could lead to Ben Scrivens hitting the trade block after starter Jonathan Quick returns to action.

TRIBLIVE.COM: A significant penalty kill helped the exhausted, injury-depleted Penguins stave off a rally by the Minnesota Wild and march to a 5-2 victory. The Penguins were forced to kill off a two-man advantage by the Wild for nearly two minutes early in the third.  The win was the Penguins’ sixth straight.

PHILLY.COM: Claude Giroux score twice (including a no-look backhander) helping the Philadelphia Flyers overcome a 3-0 deficit to edge the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4, putting the Flyers above .500 for the first time this season.

TBO.COM: Anders Lindback made 28 saves as the Tampa Bay Lightning doubled up the Nashville Predators 4-2 for their third straight win.

BUFFALO NEWS: The Buffalo Sabres upset the Boston Bruins 4-2, plus acquired Linus Omark in a trade with the Edmonton Oilers for a conditional sixth round pick.

NEWS & OBSERVER: Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner is back in the scoring zone, with eight  goals in his last  seven games and nine in the past nine.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Skinner’s resurgence coincides with the Hurricanes recent improvement, which bodes well going forward if he can remain healthy.
