STLTODAY.COM:  Kevin Shattenkirk’s shootout goal gave the St. Louis Blues a 6-5 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blues also learned leading scorer Alexander Steen was placed on injured reserve due to a concussion suffered in a recent game against the Edmonton Oilers.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Steen previously missed 39 games to a concussion back in 2011-12. Hopefully he won’t miss much time.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Saku Koivu’s overtime goal lifted the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. The win was a franchise-record 10th straight for the Ducks. Earlier in the game Koivu scored his 250th career goal.

THE TENNESSEAN: Mike Fisher scored twice in the third period as the Nashville Predators edges the Los Angeles Kings 3-2.

MLIVE.COM: The Detroit Red Wings blew a two-goal lead but goals from Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist carried them to a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers.

NJ.COM: Goaltender Corey Schneider snapped his five-game losing skid by backstopping the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. The Isles were playing without captain John Tavares, sidelined day-to-day with a lower-body injury and ending his consecutive streak of games-played at 246.

PHILLY.COM: A resurgent Claude Giroux is powering the Flyers improvement.

DENVER POST: Rookie forward Nathan MacKinnon has become “the total package” for the Colorado Avalanche.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Even though I believe the Avs should’ve drafted Seth Jones, they’ve got a future superstar in MacKinnon.

TWINCITIES.COM: The Minnesota Wild have placed forward Zach Parise (foot contusion) on injured reserve.

BOSTON GLOBE: Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg is out for the year with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s a significant loss for the Bruins defense. Expect them to use their depth in young defensemen to try and off-set Seidenberg’s absence.

WASHINGTON POST: Rookie goalie Philipp Grubauer’s strong performance (5-1-1 record, 2.18 goals against average and .937 save percentage in eight appearances) could make it difficult for the Capitals to return him to their farm team.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s also sparking some talk of the Capitals shopping Michal Neuvirth when he returns from injury.
