Roberto Luongo set to return to the Canucks lineup.

VANCOUVER SUN: After missing two weeks with a groin strain, Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo is ready to return to action.

OTTAWA SUN: Team USA GM David Poile has issued an apology to Senators winger Bobby Ryan for comments about his intensity by Brian Burke, who was part of the club’s selection committee. Ryan, meanwhile, wishes to put the situation behind him.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Poile believed the behind-the-scenes coverage by ESPN.com and USA Today of the selection process would come under Team USA’s editorial review before being made public. He also claimed Burke was Ryan’s biggest supporter on the USA staff.  Still, the damage has been done. Ryan will eventually get over being left off this year’s version of Team USA but I think this has caused irreparable harm to his relationship with Burke.

TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul avoided a suspension for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves at the 2014 Winter Classic. However, he was fined $10K for the incident.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: Jets starter Ondej Pavelec returns between the pipes today as his club faces off against the Boston Bruins.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens sophomore forward Alex Galchenyuk confessed his disappointment over not being selected for Team USA.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The 19-year-old will get future opportunities to represent his country in other notable international tournaments. He’s having a very good season and has a bright future as an NHL star.
