BOSTON HERALD: Brad Marchand scored in overtime and rookie Niklas Svedberg made 33 saves as the Bruins edged the Nashville Predators 3-2.
NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: After being snubbed by Team USA, Kyle Okposo scored the game-winning goal lifting the New York Islanders to a 3-2 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
DENVER POST: Semyon Varlamov made 29 saves backstopping the Colorado Avalanche to a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, who also lost rookie forward Michael Raffl to a concussion after he was hit by Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog in the first period.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Landeskog wasn’t penalized on the play and he isn’t expected to face supplemental discipline. Even Flyers coach Craig Berube considered it a clean hit.
COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Nathan Horton’s debut with the Blue Jackets was a memorable one, scoring one of his club’s goals in a 2-0 win over the Phoenix Coyotes.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: If Horton can stay healthy he’ll be a welcome addition to the Blue Jackets, especially considering the disappointing Marian Gaborik experiment, which will come to an end after this season, if not sooner.
NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Jeff Skinner collected a hat trick as the Carolina Hurricanes nipped the Washington Capitals 4-3 in overtime. Recently acquired defenseman John-Michael Liles was paired with Ryan Murphy and saw time on the power play and penalty kill.
TWINCITIES.COM: The Minnesota Wild snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
