MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov offered no excuses for the failure of Russia’s men’s hockey team to medal at the Sochi Olympics. He also denied a report claiming the Habs offered him a one-year, $6 million contract. He said contract discussions are ongoing.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Regardless of Markov’s contract status I don’t believe they’ll move him at the trade deadline.

EDMONTON SUN: Oilers GM Craig MacTavish gave embattled coach Dallas Eakins a vote of confidence. “I still feel strongly Dallas Eakins is going to be the guy to lead this group for a long time,”he told the Sun’s Terry Jones.
