WASHINGTON POST: Alexander Ovechkin scored his 39th goal of the season and the 15th overtime goal of his career to lift the Washington Capitals to a 6-5 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Gustav Nyquist tallied a hat trick for the Wings.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Tonight’s game between the Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers won’t be a “clash of the titans”. The two clubs sit at the bottom of their respective conference standings.

MIAMI HERALD: Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov denies rumors claiming he could sign with a KHL team this summer as a restricted free agent. Kulikov seems puzzled by the rumors, saying he doesn’t know where they’re coming from.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: They appeared last fall, puzzling some observers who remembered Kulikov playing his junior hockey in the QMJHL. Regardless, Kulikov seems intent to remain in the NHL. Whether it’s with the Panthers or with another club remains to be seen. The Panthers seem willing to re-sign the 23-year-old blueliner.

NJ.COM: With the Devils playing more home games down the stretch following the Olympic break, coach Pete DeBoer believes the table is set for his club to move up the Eastern Conference standings.

He must play “at least 30 minutes in 14 more regular season or playoff games in order to qualify as a restricted free agent”. Otherwise, he becomes a Group VI free agent (unrestricted).
