TSN.CA: Carey Price made 31 saves and Jamie Benn scored the only goal as Canada edge the United States 1-0 in their semifinal game on Friday. Canada advances to play Sweden in Sunday’s gold medal game, while the United States faces Finland for bronze today at 10 am ET.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Though I’m Canadian and was cheering for Canada, I honestly believed the Americans were going to win. I felt this was their year, but Canadian coach Mike Babcock’s puck possession system combined with Canada’s stellar defense did a magnificent job of shutting down the American offense.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: One good thing about this year’s Olympics is it’s showing Canadian hockey fans just how good Jamie Benn is. If he played for a Canadian NHL team the media would be singing his praises daily. 

TSN.CA: Erik Karlsson scored the game-winning goal and Henrik Lundqvist made 25 saves as Sweden downed Finland 2-1 to advance to Sunday’s gold medal game against Canada.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Canada vs Sweden will be a clash of two teams which relied on strong defense and puck possession to advance to the gold medal game.

NBC SPORTS: Finnish captain Teemu Selanne felt his team was one step behind Sweden throughout their game.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It didn’t help the Finns that three of their top scoring forwards (Mikko Koivu, Valtteri Filppula and Aleksander Barkov) were sidelined. Yes, the Swedes are missing players too, but they had more roster depth and it showed against the battered Finns.

DETROIT NEWS: Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg underwent back surgery and will miss up to two months.
