CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks rookie center Teuvo Teravainen made his debut in his club’s 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars. Duncan Keith, Andrew Shaw and Patrick Sharp each had two-point performances.

CHICAGO DAILY HERALD: The Blackhawks also took time yesterday to remember Daily Herald Blackhawks beat writer Tim Sassone, who covered the club for over 25 years. Sassone passed away yesterday following a lengthy illness.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Mikkel Boedker’s third-period goal lifted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. To compound the Penguins woes, they learned superstar Evgeni Malkin has been sidelined by a foot injury for the remainder of the regular season.

DENVER POST: Gabriel Landeskog scored twice in regulation and potted the game winner in a shootout as the Colorado Avalanche edged the Nashville Predators 5-4.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: Shootout goals by Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter gave the Los Angeles Kings a 5-4 win over the Washington Capitals. Alexander Ovechkin scored twice while Evgeny Kuznetsov tallied his first NHL goal for the Capitals.

COLUMBUS DISPATCH: A controversial goal by Cam Atkinson proved the winner as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-2. Atkinson scored with the net off its moorings but the officials ruled the goal stood because a Wings defenseman dislodged the net before the puck went in.

NEWSDAY: The New York Islanders leaped to a 4-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes and hung on for a 5-4 win.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Following last night’s action the Coyotes hold the final playoff berth in the Western Conference with a three-point lead over the Dallas Stars, who have a game in hand.  The Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs are locked in a four-way tie in the Eastern Conference with 80 points, but the Blue Jackets and Wings hold the final two playoff spots.
