Bruins on the verge of eliminating the Canadiens, Ducks rookie John Gibson shuts out the Kings, plus updates on the Blackhawks, Wild, Rangers and Penguins.

BOSTON GLOBE/MONTREAL GAZETTE: Carl Soderberg had a three-point night while Tuukka Rask made 29 saves as the Boston Bruins downed the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven series. The Bruins can wrap things up on Monday in Montreal.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This was the first game in the series where the Bruins controlled the game from start to finish. This time it was the Canadiens who were frustrated and off their game. If the Habs don’t find a way to counter this in Game Six, this series will be over.

Rookie goalie John Gibson is congratulated by Teemu Selanne following his 2-0 win over the LA Kings.

ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER/LOS ANGELES TIMES: Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry had two-point performances while rookie goaltender John Gibson made 28 saves in his NHL playoff debut as the Anaheim Ducks shut out the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 to even their best-of-seven series at two games apiece.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau had juggled his tandem of Jonas Hiller and Frederik Andersen until the latter suffered a recent injury. He played a hunch with Gibson and was rewarded for it. Could this be another debut of a rookie who carries his club to a championship akin to Ken Dryden, Patrick Roy and Cam Ward? We’ll find out soon enough.
