ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER/LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Anaheim Ducks ran up a 4-1 lead then held on for a 4-3 over the LA Kings to take a 3-2 lead in their best-of-seven series. Ducks goalie John Gibson made 39 saves while Devante Smith-Pelley scored twice. Marian Gaborik tallied twice for the Kings, who now find themselves on the brink of elimination once again, having dropped three straight to the Ducks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The best post-game reaction came from Kings coach Darryl Sutter, who had his sarcasm sequencer cranked to 11 responding to a question about Gibson’s performance.  What’s not funny for the Kings is they’re poised on the brink of elimination by dropping three straight games. They’ve been in this spot before, against the San Jose Sharks in their previous series, but can they rally back again?

CHICAGO TRIBUNE/TWINCITIES.COM: Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw will miss Game 6 against the Minnesota Wild, who must dig deep if they’re to stave off elimination and force a seventh and deciding game.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This has been a homer’s series, with each team’s wins so far coming on home ice. If it stays true to form, the Wild could force Game 7.

POST-GAZETTE.COM/NEW YORK POST: Pittsburgh Penguins’ star Evgeni Malkin is boldly predicting victory for his club, while New York Rangers star Rick Nash is feeling pressure to produce.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If ever there was a time for Nash to end his scoring drought, it’s tonight against the Penguins in Game 7.

WASHINGTON POST: Former Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz has expressed interest in coaching the Capitals.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Capitals could hire a new general manager before hiring a new coach. If they take too long, they risk losing the opportunity to hire Trotz.

ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed defenseman Chris Summers.
