An update on Jason Spezza and P.K. Subban, the Jets must fill a hole at center, and the latest on the Maple Leafs, Canucks, Flames and Oilers.

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Ken Warren believes Jason Spezza’s inability to improve the defensive part of his game is what’s led to his inevitable departure.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: That and the potentially high cost of re-signing him next summer or losing him for nothing via free agency.

Re-signing P.K. Subban remains the priority for the Canadiens.

Re-signing P.K. Subban remains the priority for the Canadiens.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Re-signing RFA defenseman P.K. Subban tops Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin’s “to-do” list. Re-signing RFA forward Lars Eller along with pending UFAs Brian Gionta and Mike Weaver are also among his priorities. With Andrei Markov now re-signed the Canadiens aren’t expected to make any major deals in this summer’s UFA market, while backup goalie Peter Budaj could  be shopped.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Playoff star Dustin Tokarski isn’t waiver-exempt, meaning the Habs risk losing him for nothing if they demote him next summer.  Moving Budaj and installing Tokarski as a backup will rectify that problem.

TORONTO SUN: Mike Zeisberger lists the possible options for the Maple Leafs with the eighth-overall pick in this year’s draft.

VANCOUVER SUN: The Canucks season-ticket packages are being sold to the general public not currently on their waiting list for the first time in a decade.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: After a disastrous season it’s not surprising a number of season-ticket holders opted not to renew.
