Guessing the destinations of this year’s top UFAs, plus the latest on Josh Gorges, Vincent Lecavalier, Michael Del Zotto and more.

Could Paul Stastny end up with the Rangers?

Could Paul Stastny end up with the Rangers?

ESPN.COM: Scott Burnside lists his destinations for this year’s top-15 NHL UFAs.  Among them, Burnside guesses Paul Stastny joins the Rangers, Dan Boyle the Red Wings, Christian Ehrhoff the Lightning, Ryan Miller with the Canucks, Matt Niskanen with the Capitals, Jussi Jokinen with the Jets and Steve Ott returning with the Sabres.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bear in mind Burnside is just speculating, and he’s done a pretty good job. Of course we won’t know until tomorrow at the latest who ends up where.  Feel free to debate where these guys could end up in the comments section.

ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun reports Martin Brodeur is looking forward to the upcoming UFA market. He also knows he may have to be patient as he might not be signed on the opening day… LeBrun cites sources claiming the Lightning have interest in Matt Niskanen and Dan Boyle “among others”…Brad Richards is keeping a low profile approaching free agency…Paul Stastny’s agent is working to reduce the 15-team list of teams interested in his client…The Stars might renew their exploration of the Jason Spezza situation…8-10 teams (including the Wild) have interest in Thomas Vanek…There’s interest in Leo Komarov…Roughly ten teams have expressed interest in Martin Havlat…Seven or eight teams have interest in Radim Vrbata.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Much of this is an update over what’s been reported earlier today. I am surprised there are teams with interest in Havlat, a brittle and ageing winger whose best seasons are behind him…The Stars have the young talent and prospects to entice the Senators. Spezza will need to approve, of course…Can’t blame Richards to keeping a low profile now. Three years ago when he was the top UFA available there was a circus-like atmosphere over where he might go.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Dave Stubbs with an in-depth piece on the Josh Gorges trade situation. Gorges remains shocked by GM Marc Bergevin’s intent to trade the long-time (nearly 8 years) Habs veteran.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: There’s lots of speculation Bergevin wants to clear salary to pursue a notable free-agent defenseman. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

TSN.CA: The Nashville Predators have decided not to forward a qualifying offer to defenseman Michael Del Zotto, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

CSNPHILLY.COM’s Tim Panaccio reports the following on Twitter: “Flyers almost had a deal worked out with NSH to trade Lecavalier but Preds dont want his cap hit for 4 yrs”.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Quite frankly, who would?
