LOS ANGELES TIMES:  Kings goalie Jonathan Quick is facing more shots and odd-man rushes this spring. While his club’s approach has changed to a more offensive style, Quick’s approach remains the same.

SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS: The success Dean Lombardi and Darryl Sutter have enjoyed with the Kings haunts their former team, the San Jose Sharks.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: The Blackhawks top priority this summer is re-signing Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, who will be eligible next summer for unrestricted free agency. They’re both represented by agent Pat Brisson, who negotiated their current identical contracts.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: While both could land contracts paying them over $9 million per season, it wouldn’t surprise me if they accept a little less to allow management the cap space to surround them with quality talent. Given the league’s salary variance rules it’s possible to front load both deals for a more cap-friendly deal worth closer to $8 million each per season. Most likely, it’ll run between $8.5 – $9 million each per season on eight-year deals.

NJ.COM: The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenseman Marek Zidlicky to a one-year, bonus-laden deal which could reach $4 million. Zidlicky was eligible for unrestricted free agency in July.

NEWSOBSERVER.COM: Former Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford is reportedly among the candidates for the vacant GM position with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Rutherford’s still under contract with the Hurricanes and declined to comment on the subject.
