STARTRIBUNE.COM: The Minnesota Wild avoided salary arbitration with Justin Fontaine, inking him to a two-year deal worth $1 million annually. The club is still in contract talks with Nino Niederreiter and Darcy Kuemper.
NBC SPORTS: Former Detroit Red Wings forward Mikael Samuelsson has signed with Swedish team Djurgarden. He played 13 seasons in the NHL with San Jose, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks. Samuelsson won a Stanley Cup with the Red Wings, but had his best seasons with Vancouver, including a 30 goal, 53 point performance in 2009-10.
THE BUFFALO NEWS: The Sabres have hired NHL Hall of Famer and former NHL coach Bryan Trottier as an assistant coach.
