NHL.COM: Nashville Predators GM David Poile said Mike Fisher (Achilles injury) will be sidelined until at least mid-to-late November.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Danny DeKeyser remains unconcerned over his contract negotiations with the Red Wings, adding it would be nice to get a long-term deal worked out.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: He could, instead, receive a short-term bridge deal. Either way, DeKeyser could be re-signed before the start of training camp. 

TRIBLIVE.COM: Beau Bennett (wrist surgery) remains noncommittal over when he’ll return to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He said each day he’s feeling better and gradually increasing his training. When he returns he’s hoping to play a bigger role with the club.

NEW YORK  DAILY NEWS: Islanders great Bryan Trottier claims his former coach, Al Arbour, is suffering from dementia.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sorry to hear about Arbour’s struggles. He’s one of the all-time great coaches in NHL history. My best to his family and friends.

NEW YORK POST: An adviser for  hedge-fund manager Andrew Barroway, who was interested in buying the Islanders,  is the half-brother of NHL commissioner Gary Bettman.  Barroway is suing Islanders owner Charles Wang for backing out of a deal to sell the team.

USA TODAY: Speaking of Bettman, he was interviewed on a piece regarding how the role of a sports league commissioner has changed over time.

THE GLOBE AND MAIL: Outdoor games and the new Rogers TV deal fueled a surge in NHL revenue this year. Each team will received an additional $5 million.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: This is why I roll my eyes whenever I read or hear folks expressing doubt the salary cap will rise substantially next season. 

THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC: The Arizona Coyotes have struck a nine-year deal with Gila River Casinos which includes arena naming rights.

VANCOUVER PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma on the difficulty of bringing an NHL franchise to Seattle. In short, it’s up to city council working out a memorandum of understanding and who will be the first tenant in a new downtown arena.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Know this: the NHL is very keen to put a franchise in America’s Pacific Northwest. More that returning a franchise to Quebec City or putting a second one in or around Toronto. They’ll be closely monitoring the arena situation in Seattle. 

CSNPHILLY.COM: Former Philadelphia Flyers forward Darroll Powe has signed a minor-league contract with their AHL affiliate.
