Find out what kind of contract Marian Hossa is hoping to get from the Red Wings, Vincent Lecavalier addresses recent trade rumors and more.
MLIVE.COM: Ansar Khan reports Marian Hossa and other Red Wings free agents are wondering if they'll be returning next season. Hossa, Jiri Hudler, Mikael Samuelsson, Ty Conklin and Tomas Kopecky are among the Wings notable free agents and all expressed their hope of re-signing with the Wings.DETROIT NEWS: Tim Twentyman reports Hossa is hoping to sign a long-term contract this summer be it with the Red Wings or another club although he admits the Wings are at the top of his list. Twentyman suggests Hossa will have to accept less money to do so.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: I've been over this several times but to sum up: if the Wings re-sign Hossa not only will he have to accept less money but it'll likely ensure Hudler and Samuelsson won't be back.
CYBERPRESSE.CA: Miguel Bujold reports Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier is in Montreal on business and visiting family and while he acknowledged the latest rash of speculation that has him being traded to the Canadiens or LA Kings he maintains that as far he knows he'll be returning with the Lightning next season. His new contract with a no-movement clause goes into effect on July 1st.
TAMPABAY.COM: Damian Cristodero reports the Lightning are expected to select defenseman Victor Hedman in next week's NHL entry draft with the second overall pick, but if the NY Islanders, who hold the first overall pick, select Hedman management will face either selecting John Tavares or Martin Duchene or perhaps swapping the pick with a team looking to move up in the draft for blueline help. Cristodero notes rumors out of Toronto suggesting the Maple Leafs might be willing to move defenseman Tomas Kaberle but believes the Leafs would have to sweeten the deal by adding either Ian White or Luke Schenn.
SPECTOR' S NOTE: We can expect the Lecavalier speculation to ramp up over the next two weeks, especially next weekend when the draft is held in Montreal, and won't die down until July 1st when that movement clause goes into effect. It'll be interesting to see who the Isles and Bolts select next Friday with the first two picks but it's quite possible nothing of consequence trade-wise could happen if the Isles pass over Hedman.
