After weeks of speculation leading up to the first round of the NHL entry draft there were almost no trades of note other than the Pronger to Philadelphia deal. So what happened? Could there be more trades during Day Two of the draft? Read on to find out.

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports offers for Senators winger Dany Heatley fell short as the Senators asking price was believed too expensive. It's believed GM Bryan Murray was seeking Dustin Brown, Jack Johnson and the fifth overall pick from the Kings, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Brent Burns from the Wild, Marc Staal, Brandon Dubinsky and/or Ryan Callahan from the Rangers. The Blackhawks are trying to sign Martin Havlat and won't commit to dealing for Heatley, while the Oilers don't wish to part with Sam Gagner or Andrew Cogliano.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks also reports the Senators asking price was "delusional", noting the Rangers won't part with Staal. Brooks also reported contrary to reports out of Toronto the Rangers and Maple Leafs didn't discuss Wade Redden. The Maple Leafs are among eight teams on Redden's "no-trade" list.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: There are 4 million reasons why the Senators won't trade Heatley prior to July 1st and that's the bonus he's due on that date.

LA PRESSE: Marc Antoine Godin reports hearing during the draft a rumor the Sedin Twins might consider signing with the Montreal Canadiens if they should become UFAs on July 1st. Negotiations between the Sedins and Vancouver Canucks have reportedly stalled.

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports the chatter of the Canadiens dealing for Tampa Bay's Vincent Lecavalier has now shifted into high gear than a move could be made prior to July 1st. A stumbling block is the Habs don't have much to offer, as Garrioch reports they're beleived offering goalie Jaroslav Halak and forward Chris Higgins as part of a package....Garrioch also reports the Lightning are having no luck convincing Vaclav Prospal to waive his "no-movement clause", while contract talks between the Oilers and Dwayne Roloson have stalled.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Pat Hickey reports Canadiens GM Bob Gainey is preaching patience to Habs fans as he continues his search for a big first line center.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: If Lecavalier isn't dealt to Montreal, or elsewhere, by the end of this weekend, he won't be dealt at all in my opinion.

CSNPHILLY.COM: Tim Panaccio last night reported Jay Bouwmeester's agent said they're not prepared to talk contract until July 1st and that includes with any team dealing for his rights.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: Many folks here were fully expecting a Bouwmeester trade last night but this decision by his agent not to talk contract until July 1st pretty much assures no club will give up a draft pick for him.

BOSTON HERALD/TORONTO SUN: report miscommunication led to the breakdown of a potential trade between the Bruins and Maple Leafs which would've sent Phil Kessel to Toronto for Tomas Kaberle. It was reported the Bruins also wanted the Leafs first round pick (seventh overall) but Leafs GM Brian Burke said that was never part of the deal.

SPECTOR'S NOTE:  I'm not sure if the Kessel offer was the one referred to in the press on Thursday which had the Leafs checking with four other teams believed interested in Kaberle to see if they'd up the ante, but it suggests Kessel and Kaberle are now in play in the trade market.
