The Canadiens suspend Sergei Kostitsyn, Michael Nylander to the AHL, and the latest on Marc Savard.
NHL.COM: reported earlier today Boston Bruins forward Marc Savard has been sidelined for at least six weeks with a broken left foot.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: That'll cool off some of the trade rumors regarding Savard for a little while, but of course the real speculation will kick in if the Bruins either fall out of playoff contention by the March 3rd trade deadline, or if he's unsigned by the June entry draft weekend.
THE GLOBE & MAIL: citing various reports from Montreal reports the Canadiens have suspended forward Sergei Kostitsyn after he left the Hamilton Bulldogs. He reportedly packed his gear and left the Bulldogs following Tuesday's game and there's unconfirmed reports he may be heading to Russia, where several Russian-language websites claim Kostitsyn gave the Canadiens an ultimatum to either call him up or he'd consider one of three offers from KHL teams.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: My thanks to everyone who sent these in. I'm going with the G&M report as it nicely encapsulates the latest on Kostitsyn the younger, who apparently has decided to piss away his NHL career, at least for the time being. He's in no position to make ultimatums, although his agent earlier this week dismissed those rumors, but if that's what he wants to do the Habs won't shed any tears. They still own his NHL rights until he turns 27.
**UPDATE**
RDS.CA reports Kostitsyn has agreed to return to the Bulldogs after meeting with Habs GM Bob Gainey, who has lifted his suspension.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Round and round we go! My thanks to Scotty Wazz and Sean Leahy of the Face Off Hockey Show! See, guys, I kept my promise!
KUKLA'S KORNER: reports earlier today the Washington Capitals have sent center Michael Nylander to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins on a two-week conditioning stint.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: In case you're wondering, Nylander doesn't need to waive his "no-movement" clause for conditioning as he doesn't have to pass through waivers in that instance. Paul Kukla has more: "According to Wings beat writer Bruce MacLeod, Nylander has a no-movement clause and agreed to GR plus the Caps as stated earlier, didn’t want to take ice time away from prospects."
