The latest on Matt Cullen and Jaroslav Halak, plus the Ducks poor play has upset their general manager.
CHICAGO DAILY HERALD: Tim Sassone updates his report from Sunday where he cited sources claiming the Blackhawks were eyeing Carolina Hurricanes center Matt Cullen. While uncertain if the Blackhawks will acquire Cullen, Sassone believes he'd be a good fit for the team. He also notes it's tough to say what the Hurricanes would want in return because they need a lot of help but if they wanted a defenseman Sassone claims the only untouchables are Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook and Niklas Hjalmarsson.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Hurricanes fans would probably want Cam Barker but that would be giving up too much for Cullen. Forget about peddling Brian Campbell, his salary is far too expensive to move.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson yesterday suggested Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak will move on via free agency next summer unless the Habs move him at the trade deadline first.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: The only way Halak walks via free agency is if he gets an offer sheet from a rival club. He's a restricted free agent in July. It is however possible Halak could be shopped at the trade deadline if the Canadiens are out of the playoff race by then.
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Eric Stephens yesterday reported Anaheim Ducks general manager Bob Murray is unhappy with his club's performance thus far. Murray said the bad start is testing his patience but any potential changes could come for the roster, not behind the bench.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: In other words, head coach Randy Carlyle won't be fired, but Murray could shake things up via trades or demotions.
