NORTHJERSEY.COM: Tom Gulitti reports it looks like the NHL's official decision on the New Jersey Devils latest contract proposal for Ilya Kovalchuk could come today. The league has until 5 PM ET to September 1st to render its decision.

YAHOO! SPORTS: Dmitry Chesnokov reports via Puck Daddy a source said the Devils latest offer addressed all the concerns raised by arbiter Richard Bloch in his ruling for the league's rejection of the Devils first contract offer for Kovalchuk. Chesnokov also reported Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos reported the final three years of the new deal averages $2.6 million per season, including a $4 million base for the final season (2024-25).Chesnokov suggests the NHL could risk losing Kovalchuk to the KHL.

SPECTOR'S NOTE: If the NHL rejects the Devils latest this will undoubtedly be their last proposal for Kovalchuk, at least for this season, as the winger's Russian agent has already stated his client will play in the KHL if there's no new NHL contract in place for him soon.
