NEWSDAY: John Tavares’ four-point performance (two goals, two assists) carried the New York Islanders to a 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Rick Nash scored his league-leading 35th goal and Cam Talbot made 34 saves as the New York Rangers downed the Arizona Coyotes 5-1, giving Rangers coach Alain Vigneault his 500th career NHL victory.

THE TENNESSEAN: Goals by Colin Wilson and Craig Smith within 66 seconds late in regulation lifted the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils.

TWINCITIES.COM: Thomas Vanek scored twice and Devan Dubnyk picked up his 10th win in 13 starts as the Minnesota Wild doubled up the Carolina Hurricanes 6-3.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Los Angeles Kings collected their fourth straight win, downing the Washington Capitals 3-1.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Seen as teetering on the brink of falling out of playoff contention a week ago, it appears the defending Stanley Cup champions still have some life left. They’re only three point out of a wild-card berth. 

THE DENVER POST: Cody McLeod’s gritty play (“30 minutes worth of penalties that included two fighting majors… four shots, five hits, two blocked shots and contributed to a flawless penalty kill.”) was the spark needed to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars.

THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Stars forward Tyler Seguin could miss 3-6 weeks with a knee injury suffered in Friday’s game against the Florida Panthers when he was clipped by Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov. Patrick Eaves suffered a concussion in the same game when struck by a shot but didn’t suffer facial fractures. The status of Ales Hemsky (lower-body injury) has yet to be determined.

MIAMI HERALD: Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov has been suspended pending a hearing with the NHL player safety department regarding his hit on Seguin.

CSNBAYAREA.COM: San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski blames the disappointment over last season’s playoff collapse plus a lack of buzz generated by management’s offseason handling of the roster among the factors for the club’s decline in home attendance this season.
