CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Former NHL defenseman Brent Sopel has announced his retirement as a professional player after 18 seasons. Sopel won a Stanley Cup in 2010 with the Chicago Blackhawks. He also played for the Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers and Montreal Canadiens. He spent three seasons in the KHL and was playing for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves this season.
