What could the Hurricanes get for Andrej Sekera?

ESPN.COM: Craig Custance reports teams are reluctant this season to part with their first-round picks in this year’s draft, making second-round picks more valuable in the trade market…The Carolina Hurricanes could try to land a first-round pick for defenseman Andrej Sekera, but Custance suggests it could take packaging Sekera with Jiri Tlusty or Jay McClement to do it. He expects the Hurricanes will eventually get a second-rounder and a prospect for Sekera…With the LA Kings battling their way back into the playoff picture the likelihood of trading 2014 playoff MVP Justin Williams decreases. Custance also doesn’t expect them to move backup goalie Martin Jones…Katie Strang speculates the New York Islanders could have interest in Toronto’s David Winnik or Ottawa’s Erik Condra.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Concur with Custance’s take on the potential return for Sekera…I don’t see the Kings moving Williams. He’s too valuable right now as they push for a playoff berth.

Updates on Glencross, Polak and Fasth.

CALGARY HERALD: Kristen Oland reports left wing and pending UFA Curtis Glencross is a logical bargaining chip for the Calgary Flames if they decide to seek depth through the trade market. Glencross carries a no-trade clause, however, giving him final say over his fate.

TORONTO SUN: Rob Longley reports the Montreal Canadiens and LA Kings are reportedly among the suitor for Maple Leafs defenseman Roman Polak. Longley wonders if the Leafs will move Polak, given their blueline depth is already thin after losing Dion Phaneuf to injury and trading Cody Franson to Nashville.

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jonathan Willis notes Viktor Fasth’s recent knee injury likely means the Oilers won’t be able to move him at the trade deadline. Willis believes any team not scared off by Fasth’s performance this season could consider other options than a struggling goalie coming off a knee injury.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Flames have played well in Glencross’ absence to injury this season, plus he’s struggled offensive since late-December. While the Flames aren’t under pressure to move Glencross, they’ll likely consider it for the right offer, which is something which can help them now and in the future…Since the Leafs are in free fall and aren’t a playoff contender, they could move Polak for a decent offer and replace him via a call-up from the minors.

Latest on the Flyers, Coyotes and Jets.

PHILLY.COM’s Sam Carchidi took to Twitter to suggest the Flyers recent re-signing of Nick Schultz increases the likelihood of Braydon Coburn and/Nick Grossmann getting moved.

NBC SPORTS: Arizona Coyotes GM Don Maloney hasn’t been impressed by the trade offers he’s received for some of his assets (Antoine Vermette, Zbynek Michalek, Keith Yandle and Martin Erat. “We have good assets. We have good people that other teams would like to acquire,” he said. “We’d just like a little bit more than is being offered right now.”

SPORTSNET’s Damien Cox took to Twitter to ask the following: With Mathieu Perreault likely out for rest of regular season, worth wondering if WPG might have use for C Olli Jokinen as a rental.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The following video answers that question;
