The San Jose Sharks traded winger Tyler Kennedy to the New York Islanders in exchange for a conditional 2016 third-round pick. The Pittsburgh Penguins trade defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a 2016 seventh-round pick to the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Ian Cole.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kennedy is a UFA this summer and struggled during his time with the Sharks. The Islanders bring him in for rental depth, especially with three regular forwards (Kyle Okposo, Mikhail Grabovski and Casey Cizekas) currently sidelined.
The Blues add a more physical presence on their defense with Bortuzzo, while the Penguins add an experienced shutdown blueliner in Cole.
