SPECTOR’S NOTE: I’m not surprised by the firings, only with the timing. I was expecting this to happen on Monday or Tuesday. Looking like team president Brendan Shanahan doesn’t believe in wasting time making changes.

Let’s face it, Horachek was a goner for sure following the club’s total collapse after he replaced Randy Carlyle. As for Nonis, he’s paying the price for his mistakes (hello there, David Clarkson contract) since taking over for Brian Burke over two years ago.

So, in addition to all the speculation over which Leafs players won’t be back next season, the big guessing game over who takes over as the new Leafs GM and head coach begins in earnest. I daresay Shanahan won’t waste much time vetting replacements, as he’ll want to have the in place by early June, before the NHL Draft weekend later that month and the start of free agency in July.

So, Leafs fans, who do you think the Leafs will hire as their new GM and head coach? Will it be Mike Babcock, Dan Bylsma, Todd McLellan or Dave Tipppet for coach?  Ray Shero or Peter Chiarelli for GM? Feel free to voice your opinion in the comments section below.
