The Colorado Avalanche have signed recently-acquired center Carl Soderberg to a five-year, $23.75 million contract.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Avalanche only acquired Soderberg yesterday. Considering how quickly they re-sign him, this move appears a certainty Ryan O’Reilly will be traded very soon, possibly today.
The Avs paid a steep price for Soderberg salary-wise, as he’s getting a huge jump in pay from his $1.008 million cap hit of this season. He’s now earning $4.75 million annually starting in 2015-16 with a full no-trade clause in the first two years and a limited one afterward. That’s a lot for a guy with back-to-back 40 point seasons. Evidently they see him sliding into the second-line center role.
Curious if any history with Soderberg and Landeskog. age gap
I think Soderberg must be 3rd line centre or top 6 depth. Not convinced he is a 2nd line centre with Duchene and MacKinnon there. I imagine he is replacing O’Reilly’s responsibilities which were 3rd line centre and top 6 spot duty.
