The Vancouver Canucks trade goaltender Eddie Lack to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a third round pick in 2015 and a seventh-round pick in 2016.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Not the haul Canucks GM Jim Benning was looking for, as he reportedly sought at least a second-round pick in this year’s draft. However, he did lack a third rounder so he addressed that need. That means Jacob Markstrom will back up Ryan Miller next season.
As for the Hurricanes, ESPN.com’s Pierre LeBrun reports they could be trading Anton Khudobin later today. If so, that means Lack backs up Cam Ward for the final season of his contract, with a shot at perhaps becoming the full-time starter next season.
Would have rather seen Markstrom moved if that was all Lack could fetch. Hurricanes fans – you’ve got a good goalie with incredible character on your team. I’m sure Eddie will enjoy your cuisine immensely. Hope you have good tacos out there!!
Hell yeah…. something was very very wrong with this trade. It was almost like Benning was desperate or more likely, not really focusing as much effort into this trade because of energy and time on the potential Lucic deal and the Bieksa trade. This was really really bad. I don’t think the market circumstances warranted making this move at the draft. Benning just wanted another draft choice out of this and the Canucks got shafted big time.
Wow. Gave him away. What’s the future hold for Ward ?
