SPORTSNET’s John Shannon reports the Anaheim Ducks signed right wing Chris Stewart to a one-year, $1.7 million contract.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s considerably lower than the $4.25 million Stewart earned last season. One reason is the limited number of teams with available cap space to invest in unrestricted free agents. Another is the lack of depth in this summer’s UFA pool. Finally, Stewart’s performance in recent years had an adverse effect upon his market value. It’s an affordable move by the Ducks, giving them experienced short-term depth on right wing for their third line.
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Patrick Sharp reflected on his 10 years with the Blackhawks and looks forward to the next stage of his career with the Dallas Stars. On Friday, Sharp was dealt by the Blackhawks to the Stars in a multi-player trade.
LOS ANGELES TIMES: The Kings officially introduced left wing Milan Lucic to the LA media. Lucic was acquired from the Boston Bruins late last month.
STARTRIBUNE.COM: The Minnesota Wild re-signed defenseman Christian Folin to a two-year, one-way deal worth $1.45 million.
TRIBLIVE.COM: Pittsburgh Penguins co-owner Ron Burkle stands to make a big profit from selling the team.
