Leaf – Flyers.
Leafs send JVR to the Flyers to play on their top line with Giroux and Vorachek. Also, Leafs include Nathan Horton’s contract to give the Flyers the ability to go $5 million over the cap (helps in the resigning of Vorachek).
Flyers send Provorov to the Leafs along with Lecavalier and Schenn’s contracts.
Flyers have an abundance of young defensemen: Gotspierre, Morin, Sandheim, Hagg and Provorov.
Flyers can afford to trade one of them for a 1st line, 30 goal, 26 year old left winger with a cap friendly contract.
Leafs can afford to take Lecavalier and Schenn’ contracts and get a potential 1st pairing (at the least 2nd pairing) young defenseman and have no real need for JVR as he will be almost 30 years old by the time Leafs are competitive again.
Seems to work with both teams fulfilling specific needs.
Any thoughts?
Why should the Leafs trade JVR for the Schenn’s and Lecavallier? Nobody in the league wants Lecavallier at a cap hit of $4mil, Luke Schenn’s trade value is low, Brayden Schenn has value but not as much as JVR.
And Horton’s contract counts against the salary cap until the season starts and the Leafs (or the Flyers if they would trade for him) can spend Horton’s cap hit when they put him on LTIR as soon as the season starts. No extra $5mil. to spend!
