NHLPA.COM: 23 NHL players have filed for salary arbitration. Their hearings are slated for between July 20- August 4.  Among the notables are New York Rangers center Derek Stepan, Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby, Detroit Red Wings winger Gustav Nyquist and Arizona Coyotes winger Mikkel Boedker. Dates and times for their respective hearings have yet to be determined. The deadline for club-elected salary arbitration is 5 PM ET today.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Just because these players have filed for salary arbitration doesn’t mean they’ll end up before an arbiter. As we’ve seen over the years, most players re-sign with their teams before their arbitration hearings.

iDNES.cz: Veteran NHL forward Martin Havlat is waiting to see if he’ll receive an offer from an NHL team. If he doesn’t, it’s expected he could retire.

Jakub Voracek played a role in convincing goaltender Michal Neuvirth to sign with the Philadelphia Flyers.

THE WASHINGTON POST: The Capitals and RFA forward Evgeny Kuznetsov are discussing a new two- to three-year contract.

THE BUFFALO NEWS: Jack Eichel’s work ethic should make him a perfect fit with the Sabres.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE: The NHL’s concussion protocol requires considerable improvement if it is to better protect the players.
