EDMONTON SUN: In what could be a preview of things to come for the Oilers this season, forwards Taylor Hall and Connor McDavid skated together for the first time yesterday at the BioSteel Pro Hockey Camp at St. Michael’s Arena.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I know, it’s only an offseason practice session, but such is the hype surrounding McDavid this summer. It’s also been a very quiet month for notable NHL news.

CBS SPORTS: Former Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock won’t be the Toronto Maple Leafs’ saviour in his first season behind their bench. However, he will lay the groundwork for what the Leafs hope will be future success in the coming years.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Most Leafs fans have realistic expectations for Babcock this coming season. They know the Leafs are rebuilding and aren’t expecting a playoff run. What they’re hoping to see this coming season are indications that Babcock will start molding the club into a future postseason contender.

SPORTSNET: Has Montreal Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien changed his reputation for being a tough bench boss?

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I think most Habs fans are more worried about the Canadiens’ puck possession and offense under Therrien.

WINNIPEG FREE PRESS: For the most part, it’s been a quiet summer for the Jets.
