SI.COM: Despite a busy summer for Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray, some questions still dog his club. For one, determining who will be their no.1 defenseman? And who plays left wing on the top line with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. Murray has left himself over $7 million in cap space to work with if necessary, though his internal cap ceiling could be lower than the league’s.

ESPN.COM: Center Jack Eichel, the Buffalo Sabres’ 2015 first-round pick (second overall), is enjoying a few days of quiet time before heading to Buffalo to join his new club.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: If not for Connor McDavid, Eichel would’ve been the first-overall pick this year. And like McDavid in Edmonton, Eichel will face considerable pressure this season to reverse the Sabres fortunes.

FOXSPORTS:  Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal has recovered from back surgery and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

TRIBLIVE.COM: For Pittsburgh Penguins winger Pascal Dupuis, resuming his NHL playing career is a risky proposition. Dupuis missed most of last season to a blood clot in one his lungs, and will be strictly regulating his intake of blood thinners this season.

CSNWASHINGTON.COM: Capitals forward Brooks Laich and actress Julianne Hough announced their engagement.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Congratulations to the happy couple.

NJ.COM: Another change for the staff of the New Jersey Devils, as long-time strength and conditioning coordinator Mike Vasalani was replaced by Joe Lorincz, who spent the last six seasons in that role with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL.  Vasalani was considered former GM Lou Lamoriello’s eyes in the Devils dressing room by the players.
