EDMONTON JOURNAL: This is a make-or-break season for Justin Schultz if he hopes to secure a long-term contract with the Oilers. Schultz is slated to become a restricted free agent next summer.

MONTREAL GAZETTE: Tomas Fleischmann was a standout for the Canadiens in a 4-3 preseason loss to the Washington Capitals. Fleischmann is on a professional tryout with the Habs in hopes of securing a one-year contract.

TORONTO STAR: Maple Leafs defenseman Martin Marincin’s puck-possession numbers could make him a good fit under coach Mike Babcock’s system. Marincin was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers soon after Babcock was hired.
