Updates on Jordan Eberle, Max Pacioretty, Jared Cowen and more in your NHL Canadian Corner.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers right wing Jordan Eberle will miss the next four-to-six weeks to a right shoulder injury. The club also demoted promising defenseman Darnell Nurse to their AHL affiliate in Bakersfield.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Looks like Teddy Purcell is penciled in to fill in for Eberle in the short term. As for Nurse, he might not be in the AHL for long. This will be a good move to help him adjust to the pro game, build his confidence and play meaningful minutes. Better that than rushing the kid before he’s ready.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty, who spent the summer recuperating from a fractured left tibia, will be in the lineup for his club’s preseason tilt tonight against the Ottawa Senators.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Of course he will. He’s Wolverine.
CALGARY SUN: Determining which goalie gets moved, which players are demoted and where Sam Bennett starts are among the burning questions facing the Flames approaching the regular season.
OTTAWA CITIZEN: Defenseman Jared Cowen has been penciled into the Senators top-six
TORONTO SUN: The Maple Leafs still have cuts to make, as they had 41 players still in camp as of Wednesday.
THE PROVINCE: Vancouver Canucks forward Ronalds Kenins seems to have lost his abrasive style of play.
WINNIPEG SUN: Forward Nic Petan is making a strong case to crack the Jets lineup.
