Andrew Ladd could end contract talks with the Winnipeg Jets if unsigned before the start of the season.

TSN.CA: Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd is considering shutting down contract talks for the season if a new deal isn’t reached before the club’s season opener on Oct. 8.  Ladd is eligible next summer for unrestricted free agency.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Both sides could agree to postpone talks until season’s end. This could also be a ploy on Ladd’s part to put pressure on Jets management to speed up negotiations. This story might prompt speculation of Ladd hitting the trade block if unsigned by the Feb. 29 trade deadline, but I don’t think the Jets intend to move him.

CALGARY HERALD: Flames forward Joe Colborne left Thursday’s 3-1 loss to the Jets after suffering what appeared to be an injury to his right wrist/hand after being struck by a shot from Andrew Ladd.

LA PRESSE: Forward Tomas Fleischmann is hopeful of securing a contract with the Montreal Canadiens. He’s currently on a professional tryout offer with the Habs.

OTTAWA SUN: Craig Anderson made 41 saves as the Senators down the Canadiens 5-2 in preseason play.

VANCOUVER SUN/EDMONTON SUN: “Bo Horvat had two goals and an assist, Jake Virtanen had a goal and two assists and their linemate Sven Baertschi had four assists” as the young Canucks took advantage of the Edmonton Oilers sloppy defense to secure a 5-2 victory.

TORONTO SUN: Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock continues to keep a close eye on his veterans as the regular season approaches.
