CALGARY SUN: The Flames have made center Sean Monahan an alternate captain.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: An excellent choice. Monahan is part of their young core of talent and one of their top players. He’s also quickly becoming one of the Flames most-respected players.
OTTAWA SUN: Senators winger Clarke MacArthur (head injury) claims he didn’t suffer a concussion and is ready to go for the club’s season opener on Thursday.
LA PRESSE: The Montreal Canadiens claimed winger Paul Byron off waivers from the Calgary Flames.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Though undersized at 5’7″ and 155 pounds, Byron is a versatile and hardworking energy forward. Should be a decent depth pickup for the Habs.
TORONTO STAR: The Maple Leafs placed forward Richard Panik on waivers after claiming defenseman Frank Corrado off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Corrado should be a good depth acquisition for the Leafs blueline. Could give him an opportunity to earn a full-time NHL roster spot on a rebuilding club.
