THE DENVER POST: Colorado Avalanche star Matt Duchene said former Avs center Ryan O’Reilly was a good teammate “at the rink”, leading columnist Mike Chambers to suspect “Duchene “likely” wasn’t happy that O’Reilly thought he was worth more than him” contract-wise, “and O’Reilly “likely” wasn’t happy that Duchene set the bar too low for a comparable asset” by accepting an inexpensive two-year bridge contract.
CHICAGO TRIBUNE: In a pair of surprising moves, the Chicago Blackhawks yesterday demoted promising forward Marko Dano to their AHL affiliate, and placed winger Bryan Bickell on waivers.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Dano still has a very promising future with the Blackhawks, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return to their lineup later this season. He simply needs some time to adjust to a new team and new system. The ‘Hawks were trying to move Bickell and his $4 million annual cap hit for months. I’ll have more on his status later today in my Rumors section.
ESPN.COM: Speak of Bickell, he joins Ottawa’s Colin Greening and NY Rangers’ Raphael Diaz on the waiver wire.
NJ.COM: Veteran forward Lee Stempniak, who was attending the New Jersey Devils training camp and preseason on a professional tryout offer, is waiting to see if he’s earned a contract with the club. Forward Tyler Kennedy wasn’t as fortunate, as he was released from his PTO yesterday.
THE BUFFALO NEWS: Jack Eichel, Evander Kane and Tyler Ennis are three players to watch as the Buffalo Sabres enter the upcoming season.
NBC SPORTS: Pavel Datsyuk, Danny DeKesyer and Darren Helm are among several Detroit Red Wings sidelined by injuries.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: Former NHL enforcer Mike Peluso explains the long-term health consequences he’s suffered as a result of head injuries he suffered in his playing career.
