NHL Injury Update.
MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens goaltender Carey Price and winger Alex Semin (both suffering lower-body injuries) will miss at least a week.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The injuries are starting to mount for the first-overall Habs. Winger Brendan Gallagher (hand surgery) is out six weeks.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: Oilers winger Nail Yakupov (sprained ankle) will miss the next two-to-four weeks.
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Anaheim Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen (illness) will likely miss today’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Notable NHL Headlines.
NBC SPORTS: NHL teams holding a playoff berth by the American Thanksgiving holiday have over a 77 percent chance of subsequently qualifying for the postseason.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The further a team is out of playoff contention, the greater the odds of missing the postseason. Doesn’t bode well for bottom feeders like Edmonton and Columbus.
THE WASHINGTON POST: Need a few games to return to form following offseason hip surgery, Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom is starting to feel like his old self.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Combined with the rise of young center Evgeny Kuznetsov, the Capitals now have two dangerous scoring lines.
THE GLOBE AND MAIL: After a slow start to this season, Calgary Flames rookie center Sam Bennett is stepping up his play.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: That’s good news for the struggling Flames, who need all the help they can get if they hope to keep their playoff chances alive.
CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: After struggling early with the Chicago Blackhawks and becoming the focus of trade rumors, defenseman Trevor Daley is looking more comfortable alongside Michal Rozsival in the number five defensive role.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Blackhawks were reportedly shopping for a No. 4 blueliner, giving rise to the Daley trade speculation. With Trevor van Riemsdyk now skating in that role and Daley improving, there might not be a need to swing a trade.
THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Kari Lehtonen’s injury could give young Stars goalie Jack Campbell an opportunity to prove himself at the NHL level.
NEWSDAY: The New York Islanders have recalled winger Ryan Strome.
