TWINCITIES.COM: After losing their eighth straight game and their 12th in their last 13 games, the Minnesota Wild fired head coach Mike Yeo, replacing him with minor-league coach John Torchetti on an interim basis.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The writing was on the wall this season for Yeo, as his club failed to snap out of a midseason tailspin. In danger of missing the playoffs and with no help immediately coming via trade, this is the only move management had left. Time will tell if it helps the Wild reverse their slide and regain a postseason berth.

BOSTON HERALD:  Head coach Claude Julien got his 500th NHL coaching victory as his Boston Bruins doubled up the Wild 4-2.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Last spring, there was talk the Bruins would fire Julien after they missed the playoffs. Now, he reaches a milestone in the game which also led to the downfall of a fellow bench boss. 

CBS SPORTS: Shayne Gostisbehere of the Philadelphia Flyers set an NHL record for rookie defensemen with an 11-game point streak.

THE NEWS & OBSERVER: The Carolina Hurricanes commemorated their 2006 Stanley Cup championship, as their front office hopes to rebuild into a future Cup contender.

DETROIT FREE PRESS: Petr Mrazek has not only taken over as the Red Wings’ starting goalie, he’s also the league leader in goals-against average (1.94) and save percentage (.933).

THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Stars forwards Tyler Seguin (cut arm) and Cody Eakin (undisclosed) could miss a bit of time after being sidelined in the Stars 4-3 win over the Washington Capitals.

LOS ANGELES TIMES: While Kings goalie Jonathan Quick (undisclosed) could return soon, winger Marian Gaborik (knee) was placed on injured reserve.

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS: Rick Nash (bone bruise) is now listed as week-to-week.

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa could miss some time after suffering a leg injury in Chicago’s 3-2 OT loss to the Anaheim Ducks.
