MONTREAL GAZETTE: Canadiens coach Michel Therrien blamed an “individual mistake” by defenseman P.K. Subban for the club’s 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Subban fell attempting a play at the blueline he’s done successfully many times before. While unfortunate, it wasn’t worth Therrien throwing his best player under the bus. Yet another example of why so many Habs fans want Therrien fired.
CALGARY SUN: NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has upheld the 20-game suspension levied upon Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman (left) for an ugly collision with linesman Don Henderson, in part because of a text Wideman sent to a teammate blaming the on-ice officials and the media. Wideman and the NHLPA intend to appeal to an independent arbitrator.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Flames president Brian Burke vehemently disagreed with the decision and blasted the league for taking too long to reach its conclusion. As things stand now, Wideman will miss most of the remainder of this season.
