NBC SPORTS: Online bookmaker Bovada lists the Washington Capitals to 4/1 favorites to win the 2016 Stanley Cup, followed by the Chicago Blackhawks Los Angeles Kings (15/2), Dallas Stars (11/1) and Tampa Bay Lightning (14/1).

CBS SPORTS: The Montreal Canadiens could be in the midst of a historic collapse.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: There’s no “could be” about it, this is a historic level. With superstar Carey Price sidelined, they lack the goaltending capable of covering for their defensive mistakes and anemic offense, as well as the confidence that comes with having a netminder of that caliber between the pipes. Management’s refusal to replace the coaching staff also isn’t helping, and there’s no miracle trade that can save them.

Habs fans should simply accept the fact that the critics were right all along: without Price, the Canadiens are nothing. If there’s a silver lining to this collapse, it’s that the Habs’ roster weaknesses are laid bare for all to see. Management has a big job this summer addressing them. If the Canadiens finish low enough in the standings, maybe they’ll get lucky and win the Auston Matthews draft lottery.

THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC: Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett reached a milestone by coaching in his 1,000th NHL game. Meanwhile, assistant GM Darcy Regier is stepping down for personal reasons.

THE NEWS & OBSERVER: Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ron Hainsey has set a dubious milestone, setting an NHL record for most games (805) without a playoff appearance.

THE DENVER POST:”A jury sided with Avalanche goalie Semyon Varlamov on Tuesday in a lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, awarding him $126,000 damages.”

THE VANCOUVER SUN: The Canucks placed veteran winger Brandon Prust on waivers.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Looks like there were no winners between the Canucks and Canadiens in last summer’s Prust-for-Zack Kassian swap.

CALGARY SUN: The Flames have placed winger Mason Raymond on waivers.

CSNPHILLY.COM:  Flyers backup Michal Neuvirth is out 7-10 days with a groin injury.

ESPN.COM: The Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their new logo yesterday, considered a throwback to their championship years with a modern touch.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: In other words, everything old is new again. They did some minor tweaks to their 1960s logo. I’m glad they didn’t do a major change, but it wasn’t worth the hype.
