Well start our own rumor thread today…
Just heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub from Joe Haggerty that a player like Danton Heinon has a great chance of making the team in September. Brandon Carlo looks to be close and he expects him at the very least to play some games in Boston this year, possibly impress enough to make squad in September.
According to Haggerty if Carlo is able to make the squad then it’ll open up room to make a trade and unload another defenseman. My thought has always been and Haggerty mentioned it as well… Adam McQuaid.
Thoughts?

I’m a pessimist by nature. At best a realist. I lean to odds of probability & or opportunity. There is room at the top always. Players can steal jobs even if unlikely but it’s rare. See Larkin in Detroit.
Boston has 2 young kids on D already in Morrow & Miller. The kids will see a cup of coffee but I don’t see any of the young Dman not already exposed playing any significant # of games this year.
Nor do I see any of the current forward prospects getting much opportunity other than Vesey if he signs or Vatrano & Griffith; who has waiver rights this season, he makes the Bruins this year or will be lost on waivers.
There are 2 spots available on the Bruins roster currently. I assume Boston is hoping that those spots go to Vesey & a #2 transitional Dman acquire in trade. If neither plays out Belesky & Vatrano are the #2 & 3 LW’s moving up & down constantly & the D is what you see until that can be solved.

Striker,
I could see Griffith being a victim of waivers this season and being lost unless they move him in a trade. I don’t see Vatrano getting put on waivers so he likely sticks with the team.

That pretty much sums it up Striker.
As you suggest, I hope they don’t rush the young D (Carlo) either and I don’t believe Sweeney will. You know Julien won’t want to. Living in Edmonton I have watched the Oilers make that mistake for years.
On another note, I have never seen Vesey play, is he really ready for a top 6 role as some/many suggest?
He was older and stronger than most of his competition in college, the reverse will be true in the NHL. I am also a pessimist by nature, and will believe it when I see it.
Very likely a solid NHL player at a good price, but top 6?

Ray Bark,
According to a lot of reports, which are just speculation anyways but they’ve said Jimmy Vesey is ready for top 6. I haven’t seen many highlights of the player but he’s definitely ahead of the curve because he opted to play out his 4 years in college.
There’s been a lot of speculation that Vesey is keen on receiving a top 6 roll as well, which will be apart of the pitch from teams come August 15th. Bruins will need to reassure the player that he would hold a prominent role in their lineup otherwise he’ll likely choose elsewhere.
Just my 2 cents

Vatrano doesn’t have to clear waivers.

Striker,
Just Griffith then? That’s good for Vatrano and the Bruins but I still don’t they send the kid down. I think he’s up with the big club all season

Whatever keeps Hayes out of the top 9 works for me. Hopefully they play spoons on the wing with berry and Marchand. Then Krejci centering pasta and Vatrano. Third line should have belesky, Backes and either vesey if he signs or maybe Nash. Then 4th can feature Hayes, acciari and Griffith. Don’t see how heinen makes the team, especially with vesey signing. Unless he outplays acciari and Griffith
I thought Adam MacQuaid would go to the Oilers last year when he was a free agent. Charielli likes him so it could still happen.

Expansion draft is less then a year away and a lot of things can and will happen during this time. I profess I don’t know a lot about the wild but looking at their team and NMC, I find them like Nashville and Anaheim to be in a precarious position. Minnesota have up front Parise, Koivu and Pominville with NMC. on D they have Suter with a NMC. On defense still have Spurgeon, Brodin, Scandella and Dumba up front Stall, Coyle, Grandlund. Niederreiter and Zucker. Unless the Wild make some trades I believe the 7-3-1 option is out, unless you want to leave Spurgeon and Scandella exposed? so that leaves 4d and 4f; with the three for mentions nmc players then they can protect one of Stall, Coyle, Grandlund, Niederreiter and Zucker. Who do you pick? or maybe in this case quantity is better then quality; you protect the 7 forwards and 3 d and move a dman out via trade for assets that don’t require protections. The expansion draft will make for an interesting season and we’ll see trades that we wouldn’t otherwise see. I guess the 7-3-1 option isn’t out.
Yes losing Wilson, didn’t have a great regular season put had 13pts in 14 playoff games in with 5 goals only 6 in the regular season. One has to wonder if the playoffs was Wilson coming out party. We’ll soon know.

Wonder if we can get something going here.
Columbus: might see them move someone out before the start of the season. We know they want to move Hartnell and Foligno is possibly available. Is Dubinsky a candidate to move? Almost certain Wenberg has 2C capability behind Jenner.
Wonder is Bjugstad is available? He looks like a 2C talent but is buried behind Barkov and Trocek for the near future. If they can sell high then Florida can consider it. Maybe a return that includes a top 6 Winger/sniper?
I didn’t do any research on this but it seems like two names that could move in another surprising trade to add to the excitement of last month

According to Darren Dreger on Twitter, “Kris Russell is playing the waiting game as an unrestricted free agent. He is sitting tight while teams try to clear cash from their salary caps before he makes a decision on where to play. Russell is reportedly looking for a contract north of $4 million per season.”
I’d be shocked if anyone gave that smurf something “north of $2 million!!” His size (barely 175 lbs dripping) and shot-blocking style is a recipe for disaster. He has to face it, he is NOT a Top 4 D on a fair team and no one in their right mind is going to fork over in excess of $2 million – let alone $4 mil – for someone who is, in reality, a 5/6 pairing.
Hey George as a Ottawa fan,in you opinion does hudler or vermmet have a spot on the sens 2nd or 3rd lines?
Van
on August 4, 2016 at 6:07 pm
I’d be surprised if Ottawa signed Hudler or Vermette. Their top 6 is actually quite strong and both would be a third liners at best. The top 6 would include Hoffman, Turris, Stone, MacArthur, Brassard and Ryan. MacArthur’s health is the big question mark and if Ottawa signed Hudler in particular, I’d guess MacArthur is still not ready. Pageau, Smith and a young player would be a good third line and they have lots of fourth line candidates.
The defense is where I’d love to see Ottawa get another solid 4/5 player (doesn’t matter if it’s a righty or lefty). Karlsson, Methot, Phaneuf and Ceci are a solid top 4 and another veteran to play on the third pair would be great.
George O.
on August 4, 2016 at 6:43 pm
Actually, I’d take Russell as a 5/6 pairing IF her was willing to sign for 1 year at $1.5 mil. Otherwise, I’d go after Quincey. Vermette’s position (C) works against him where Ottawa is concerned as they have a boatload at that position, including Lazar who has made no bones that that is where he wants to be used (trade bait?), although his 17 goals last year looks pretty good. Still can’t figure out Arizona’s reasoning in buying him out. It’s not like they have cap issues.
Ottawa simply doesn’t need Hudler as Van pints out.
