New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist is among several NHL stars who could reach some notable milestones this season.

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, Vancouver Canucks center Henrik Sedin and Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin recently reached some notable milestones. Lundqvist passed Dominik Hasek for most career victories by a European-born goaltender (390), while Sedin and Ovechkin each reached their 1,000th career NHL point.

Several other NHL stars are also closing in on milestones over the remainder of this season.

Starting with the goaltenders, Lundqvist is just seven victories away from reach 400 for his career.  By season’s end, he could also surpass Chris Osgood (401) and Grant Fuhr (403) to move into 10th overall on the all-time wins list.

Further up that list, Florida Panthers netminder Roberto Luongo (449 wins) recently passed Terry Sawchuk (447) to move into fifth place. He needs just six more victories to pass Curtis Joseph for fourth overall. Luongo also has 73 shutouts, putting him within reach of Tony Esposito (76) for 10th on the all-time list.

Moving to forward, Luongo’s seemingly ageless teammate Jaromir Jagr is only three points away from becoming only the second player in NHL history to tally 1,900 career points. With 214 power-play goals, he needs four more to pass Joe Nieuwendyk (215) and Mike Gartner (217) for 10th in that category.

Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby need 11 points to join Sedin and Ovechkin in the 1,000-point club.

San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton is only nine assists away from reaching 1,000 for his career. He’s also within range of passing Joe Sakic (1,016) for 10th on the all-time list. With 1,371 points, he needs just three more to pass Mike Modano (1,374) for 21st overall.

Thornton’s long-time teammate, Patrick Marleau, needs only seven more goals to reach 500. Los Angeles Kings winger Marian Gaborik needs 10 more goals to reach 400 for his career.

Marleau’s also five game-winning goals away from reach 100 for his career. Colorado Avalanche winger Jarome Iginla is only three away from that mark.

Chicago Blackhawks right wing Marian Hossa has 33 career shorthanded goals. He needs just three more to vault past Dirk Graham and Theo Fleury into ninth on the all-time list and four to pass Sergei Fedorov for eighth.

Turning to defensemen, Boston Bruins blueliner Zdeno Chara (586 points) needs just 14 to reach 600 for his career. He could also surpass Garry Galley (600 points) for 36th all-time.

Chicago Blackhawks rearguard Brian Campbell is just one point away from 500 for his career. Teammate Duncan Keith (489 points) needs just 11 more to also reach that career number.

  1. Lyle, Also a pending coaching milestone—Hitchcock is a couple wins away from moving into #3 with coaching wins. He will pass Arbour, and trail only Bowman and Quennville. (although the way the Blues are playing right now, it may take a while:)

  2. Good article. Not something I’d be expecting too regularly, but interesting to check in on these kinds of things. Thanks Lyle.
