Latest on the Vegas Golden Knights, Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes in your NHL morning coffee headlines.

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL: Down two games to one against the Washington Capitals entering Game 4 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights need more from their top scorers.

The second line of James Neal, David Perron and Erik Haula “have been conspicuously absent through the first three games,” while the top line of William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith were held scoreless in Game 3. They also need puck-moving defenseman Shea Theodore to bounce back from a poor showing in Game 3.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: As a team, the Golden Knights showed signs of flagging energy in Game 2 and looked worse in Game 3. They must regain their jump tonight in Game 4 to avoid a 3-1 series deficit.

WASHINGTON POST: Cheap acquisitions such as Devante Smith-Pelly, Brett Connolly and Michal Kempny became crucial postseason depth players.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: After making high-profile rentals in the past that failed to pan out, the Capitals struck gold over the course of this season with more affordable options.

TORONTO SUN: Steve Simmons wonders why the NHL isn’t making the best players in this year’s Stanley Cup Final more accessible to the media. Notables such as Washington’s Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov and Vega’s Marc-Andre Fleury and William Karlsson weren’t available yesterday.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Simmons makes a good point, noting the other major sports leagues make their best players available to the press daily during their respective championship series.

  1. VGKs need to cut down on the “bumping” that Wsh is doing to the Flower. I believe the Knights will be very energized tonight.

  2. No the league has not been paying the bills for Arizona, Another media farse as usual.

Simmons quote says “Vega” not Vegas…I know the team is new but c’mon who doesn’t know how to spell Vegas? 😉

    • I think he meant to say “Viagra” rather then “Vega”.

  3. There was only one Flower and That was Guy Lafleur …. What a disgrace to call fleury the flower .

    • Would you like some cheese with that whine?
