Why Jake Gardiner Has Not Signed With An NHL Team

  1. I think Gardner wants to play for the Leafs, and is waiting to see if they can. There’s no way he hasn’t had offers. Karlsson got 11.5 million and hasn’t been able to skate since 2017.
He sees the magic coming and wants to be part of it.

    • Gardiner waiting for the Leafs to sign him is like leaving the landing lights on for Amelia Earhart.

Magic with the Leafs, Vinnie? Ok, as long as you remember all magic is illusion.

  2. With the acquisition of Clarkson’s contract that should give an extra $10M+ of LTIR… a lot of change to sign Marner and Gardner?

    • This move is very much saying , we’re done moving pieces and much ado about nothing for the rest of the off season and see you in October!

      Read between the lines..

    • Dubas doing his thing and putting Marner into a corner….and fairly as well.

  3. Good analysis, Lyle. Gardiner’s situation is one of the mysteries of this off-season, right up there with Kevin Labanc signing for one year, $1 million, after the season he had.
Some day, perhaps, we’ll find out what happened with both of these guys. In the mean time, it remains part of the unexplained.

  4. Even with the added LTIR room with the Clarkson addition the Leafs would have to move somebody out to resign Gardner and that’s not going to happen.
If Gardner could play the right side it MAY be a remote possibility they would move Ceci but Gardner can’t play on the right side and the Leafs have Muzzin, Rielly and Dermott to play the left.
