In today’s NHL Rumor Mill, we have the latest on Canucks forwards Lukas Reichel and Kiefer Sherwood, and an update on the Senators.

THE LATEST ON THE CANUCKS

THE PROVINCE: Patrick Johnston reports Luke Reichel’s brief tenure with the Vancouver Canucks could be ending. According to CHEK-TV’s Rick Dhaliwal, the 23-year-old forward is an option to be moved if another club is interested in him.

Reichel was chosen 17th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Projected to become a scoring winger, he struggled to play up to expectations. The Canucks acquired him from the Blackhawks for a fourth-round pick on Oct. 24.

In 13 games with the Canucks, Reichel has one assist. He was a healthy scratch from Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars. With sidelined Canucks forwards Teddy Blueger and Nils Hoglander returning soon, Reichel will be the odd man out.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Injuries are mounting for several teams around the league. Reichel could be a cheap pickup for a club seeking a forward with NHL experience as a stopgap. Maybe he’ll finally blossom with the right club.

TSN: Darren Dreger reports there haven’t been any contract talks between the Canucks and forward Kiefer Sherwood. The 30-year-old winger is in the final season of a two-year contract with an annual cap hit of $1.5 million.

Sherwood enjoyed a career-best performance last season with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points in 78 games. He’s currently on pace to exceed those numbers, with 12 goals and 16 points in 22 games.

Dreger believes contract discussions will eventually occur between the two sides. However, the Canucks’ depth on the wings means there’s no guarantee they’ll reach an agreement. He suggested that Sherwood could become a trade candidate, most likely by the March deadline.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Canucks are a team in transition right now. If they’re out of playoff contention by the trade deadline, they’ll likely peddle Sherwood while his trade value is high this season.

UPDATE ON THE SENATORS

OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch recently reported Senators general manager Steve Staios has been studying the trade market, seeking some help for another playoff push.

Garrioch claimed the Senators have been in the market for a top-six winger since last May, preferably a physical scorer. They’d also like to bolster the right side of their defense corps.

The St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, and Calgary Flames are the few clubs believed to be willing to entertain trade offers. It’s believed Flames winger Blake Coleman is one name that is out there in the trade market, prompting Garrioch to ponder if he’d be a good fit with the Senators.

Garrioch noted the Senators don’t have many tradeable assets. They don’t have a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and their prospect cupboard isn’t overflowing.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The belief is that Staios should make a bold move or two this season while core players such as Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot, and Drake Batherson are still under contract. Tkachuk and Chabot are UFA-eligible in 2028, and Batherson in 2027.

The main problem is that there aren’t many sellers right now, and those that are willing to listen to trade offers are setting high asking prices. Staios might have to wait until the March 6 trade deadline to address his roster needs.

Multi-point games by the Stars’ Jason Robertson and Oilers forwards Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl highlight a busy Saturday in today’s NHL Morning Coffee Headlines.

NHL.COM: A natural hat trick by Jason Robertson powered the Dallas Stars to a 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. Roope Hintz collected three assists as the Stars (12-4-3) won their fifth straight game. Christian Dvorak scored for the 9-6-3 Flyers.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Stars defenseman Thomas Harley missed this game as he’s out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid scored twice and collected an assist, and Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists (including the winning goal in overtime) to nip the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3. Stuart Skinner made 33 saves as the Oilers improved to 9-7-4. Eric Robinson, Nikolaj Ehlers, and Jordan Staal scored for the 12-5-1 Hurricanes.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis returned to action after being clipped in the eye by a stick in Friday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks. Teammate Jesperi Kotkaniemi remains sidelined with an ankle injury suffered in the same game. Oilers winger Zach Hyman collected an assist in his season debut after recovering from a dislocated wrist.

The Buffalo Sabres overcame a 4-1 deficit to beat the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 5-4, snapping a five-game losing skid. Tage Thompson and Josh Doan had a goal and an assist for the 6-8-4 Sabres. Alex DeBrincat tallied twice and Lucas Raymond picked up three assists for the Red Wings (10-7-1), who’ve dropped four of their last five contests.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin had two assists as he rejoined his teammates after returning from a leave of absence to spend time with his fiancee, who is recovering from a heart transplant during the summer. Sabres blueliner Michael Kesselring left this game at the end of the second period with a lower-body injury.

Minnesota Wild rookie goaltender Jesper Wallstedt kicked out 28 shots for his second straight shutout in a 2-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Matt Boldy had a goal and an assist for the Wild, who improved to 8-7-4. Petr Mrazek made 28 saves for the Ducks (11-6-1), who’ve lost three straight games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Wild winger Vladimir Tarasenko missed this game with a lower-body injury.

The Los Angeles Kings blanked the Ottawa Senators 1-0, picking up their fourth straight victory. Anton Forsberg made 17 saves for the shutout, and Alex Laferriere tallied the only goal as the 10-5-4 Kings picked up their fourth straight win and vaulted over the Ducks into first place in the Pacific Division with 24 points. Linus Ullmark turned aside 17 shots for the 9-6-4 Senators.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kings defenseman Drew Doughty left this game in the second period with a lower-body injury.

Boston Bruins winger David Pastrnak had two assists, and goalie Jeremy Swayman made 26 saves to hold off the Montreal Canadiens 3-2. Viktor Arvidsson scored what proved to be the game-winning goal as the Bruins (12-8-0) moved into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division with 24 points. Cole Caufield netted his 13th goal of the season as the 10-6-2 Canadiens dropped their third straight game, slipping into second place behind the Bruins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Boston went seven-for-seven on the penalty kill, including two 5-on-3 situations. Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy left the game in the second period after being struck in the jaw by a shot from Montreal defenseman Noah Dobson.

Tampa Bay Lightning rookie Jack Finlay’s first NHL goal was the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 22 shots for the Lightning (9-6-2), who’ve won eight of their last 10 games. Brad Marchand scored to extend his points streak to 10 games for the 9-8-1 Panthers.

A shootout goal by Simon Nemec lifted the New Jersey Devils over the Washington Capitals 3-2. Luke Hughes had a goal and an assist for the 13-4-1 Devils, who hold first place in the Metropolitan Division with 27 points. Alex Ovechkin and Connor McMichael each had a goal and an assist as the Capitals (8-8-2) overcame a 2-0 deficit.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Earlier in the day, the Devils announced that center Jack Hughes will miss the next eight weeks following successful finger surgery. Hughes slipped and fell and cut himself on some glass during a recent team dinner. The Devils also announced that forward Cody Glass is week-to-week with an upper-body injury suffered against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin stopped 24 shots, and J.T. Miller scored in a shootout to squeak past the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1. Mika Zibanejad scored in regulation for the Rangers, who have won four of their last five and improved to 10-7-2. Jet Greaves made 31 saves and Kirill Marchenko collected an assist to extend his points streak to 11 games for the Blue Jackets (9-7-2).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Rangers defenseman Will Borgen missed this game with an upper-body injury. Earlier in the day, the Blue Jackets placed sidelined captain Boone Jenner (upper body) on injured reserve.

Third-period goals by Teuvo Teravainen and Colton Dach lifted the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Spencer Knight kicked out 31 shots for the Blackhawks (9-5-4), who’ve won four of their last five contests. Joseph Woll made 29 saves in his season debut with the Maple Leafs, who slipped to 8-9-2 and are winless in their last five games (0-4-1).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno left this game in the second period after injuring his hand blocking a shot. He’s expected to be sidelined for four weeks. Earlier in the day, the Maple Leafs claimed defenseman Troy Stecher off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers and placed goaltender Anthony Stolarz (upper body) on injured reserve. Meanwhile, center David Kampf signed a one-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks, one day after his contract with the Maple Leafs was terminated.

The Vegas Golden Knights downed the St. Louis Blues 4-1. Rookie Braeden Bowman’s first NHL goal was the game-winner while Pavel Dorofeyev and Reilly Smith each collected two assists for the 8-4-5 Golden Knights, snapping a four-game winless skid. Philip Broberg replied for the Blues, who’ve dropped three of their last four games and slipped to 6-9-2.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Golden Knights have assigned goaltender Carter Hart to their AHL affiliate in Henderson, Nevada, for a conditioning stint.

A shootout goal by Gabriel Vilardi gave the Winnipeg Jets a 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 shots while Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey each collected two assists for the 11-7-0 Jets. Matt Coronato had a goal and an assist for the 5-12-3 Flames.

Seattle Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer stopped 19 shots in relief of an injured Matt Murray to beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1. Jaden Schwartz tallied two goals and Chandler Stephenson had three assists for the 9-4-5 Kraken. Alexander Wennberg replied for the 8-8-3 Sharks.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Murray left the game toward the end of the first period with a lower-body injury. Earlier in the day, the Kraken placed winger Kaapo Kakko (lower body) on injured reserve and activated forward Frederick Gaudreau.

In today’s NHL Rumor Roundup, there’s a list of potential trade chips for the Predators. Meanwhile, Flames winger Blake Coleman is garnering some interest, and we look at a list of possible destinations for former Leafs center David Kampf.

THE LATEST ON THE PREDATORS

THE TENNESSEAN: Alex Daugherty suggested some options for the Nashville Predators if general manager Barry Trotz becomes a seller by the March 6 trade deadline.

He considers Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, Nick Perbix, and Matthew Wood as untouchable. He believes center Ryan O’Reilly is their best trade chip, suggesting he might fetch a high pick and a good prospect.

Jonathan Marchessault is among those in Daugherty’s “only if the price is right” category. Forward Steven Stamkos and goaltender Juuse Saros have been oft-mentioned in early-season media trade speculation. Still, Daugherty believes it would be complicated getting them to waive their no-movement clauses.

THE ATHLETIC: Pierre LeBrun believes Trotz would consider moving Stamkos and Marchessault if the Predators are out of playoff contention by the trade deadline.

Stamkos might be open to a change later in the season. However, it’s more than that he stays put.

It’s LeBrun’s understanding that a few teams have been poking around regarding Marchessault, who carries a more affordable cap hit ($5.5 million) than Stamkos’ $8 million average annual value. However, his contract is a year longer (running through 2028-29), and also has a full no-movement clause.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: O’Reilly lacks no-trade protection. He’s signed through next season with an affordable AAV of $4.5 million. There was some interest in him last season, but the Predators treated O’Reilly as though he had a no-trade clause, leaving the final decision up to him. If that’s still the case, he might not be going anywhere.

It will be interesting to see how many teams would consider acquiring Stamkos and Marchessault. The respective performances of those aging stars will determine their value in the trade market, provided they’re willing to waive their no-movement clauses. 

FLAMES FORWARD BLAKE COLEMAN COULD BECOME A TRADE CANDIDATE

TSN: Pierre LeBrun noted the early-season trade speculation swirling around Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri and defenseman Rasmus Andersson. However, he wouldn’t be surprised if Blake Coleman was drawing more interest from rival clubs.

LeBrun said the Flames aren’t shopping the versatile 33-year-old winger. Nevertheless, he claimed that some teams have told general manager Craig Conroy that they would be interested in Coleman if he became available by the March 6 trade deadline.

NEW JERSEY HOCKEY NOW: James Nichols cited Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period saying he believes that the Devils have also expressed interest in Coleman, who began his NHL career in New Jersey before getting traded to Tampa Bay during the 2019-20 season.

Nichols noted the Flames and Devils have a trade history, with Tyler Toffoli and Jacob Markstrom moving from Calgary to New Jersey in recent years.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: LeBrun indicated that Coleman has a modified no-trade clause (10-team approved trade list), giving him some control over the situation. He’s also signed through 2026-27 with an average annual value of $4.9 million.

LATEST ON DAVID KAMPF

TSN: Darren Dreger observed that the Toronto Maple Leafs will terminate the contract of David Kampf. The 30-year-old center will become a free agent on Friday once he clears unconditional waivers.

Dreger anticipates that there will be a long list of suitors for Kampf among teams in the market for centers. He said the Pittsburgh Penguins seem to have some interest. The Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks could also be among them.

In today’s NHL Rumor Mill, the Sabres are reportedly getting calls from teams interested in acquiring Tage Thompson, plus the latest on the Penguins and Senators.

SABRES GETTING CALLS ABOUT TAGE THOMPSON

RG. ORG: Marco D’Amico reports teams are calling the Buffalo Sabres about Tage Thompson. However, general manager Kevyn Adams insisted that the star forward isn’t available.

The Sabres are once again struggling in the standings. That has prompted some teams in the market for depth at center, such as the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens, to inquire about Thompson’s availability.

Part of the reason for the Sabres’ struggles is that several key players are sidelined by injuries (Josh Norris, Jiri Kulich, Zach Benson) or illness (Jason Zucker). Meanwhile, defenseman and team captain Rasmus Dahlin is on a leave of absence for personal reasons.

However, the organization is holding off on making major roster changes, turning instead to younger players in the hope of sparking a turnaround.

TVA SPORTS: Renaud Lavoie claimed the Canadiens never contacted the Sabres to see if Thompson was available. He considers Thompson and Dahlin as the club’s foundation players, “the cream of the crop”, adding that they weren’t going anywhere.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Adams is under pressure to end the Sabres’ 14-year playoff drought. However, he’s not going to rush into things and make a panic deal. Besides, there are few sellers currently in the trade market, so there’s not much available that could help the Sabres at this time.

Thompson has a five-team no-trade list, giving Adams a lot of leeway in the trade market if he wanted to move the high-scoring forward. Nevertheless, the Sabres GM won’t move Thompson unless he wants out, or a rival club makes a substantial offer that would significantly improve his club.

THE LATEST ON THE PENGUINS

THE ATHLETIC: Josh Yohe recently wondered if the Pittsburgh Penguins’ surprisingly solid start to this season has affected their trade plans for Erik Karlsson, Bryan Rust, and Rickard Rakell.

As long as the Penguins are playing well, those veterans won’t be moved. It’s unlikely that general manager Kyle Dubas would spoil an opportunity for Sidney Crosby to participate in the postseason again.

Yohe also doesn’t see the Penguins being big buyers at the March 6 trade deadline if they’re in playoff contention by that point. Dubas doesn’t want to lose sight of his ultimate goal of turning the Penguins into a championship contender.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Dubas stated earlier this season that the goal was to continue retooling the roster with younger talent, but also to remain competitive. If the Penguins are in playoff contention by March, Karlsson, Rust, and Rakell will be staying put.

UPDATE ON THE SENATORS

OTTAWA CITIZEN: Bruce Garrioch recently reported Senators GM Steve Staios continues working the phones in search of an impact player, but that’s easier said than done at this early stage of the season.

The Senators are also trying to trade the rights of winger Alex Formenton, who was among the five players on the 2018 World Junior Team that were found not guilty of sexual assault in July in London, Ontario.

The latest Nazem Kadri speculation and an update on the Canadiens in today’s NHL Rumor Mill.

SPORTSNET: Adam Vingan recently examined why Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri is such a hot commodity in the trade market right now.

Kadri leads the struggling Flames with 11 points in 17 games. Vingan also cited his solid analytics, including his controlled entries, cycling scoring chances, successful offensive zone passes, offensive zone possession time, and his total time on ice.

Vingan cited a recent report by colleague Nick Kypreos suggesting the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens as potential trade destinations, pointing out that neither club is on his 13-team no-trade list. Kypreos also suggested the Carolina Hurricanes, but claimed they’re on Kadri’s no-trade list.

According to Vingan’s colleague Elliotte Friedman, the Canadiens would be very interested if Kadri becomes available, suggesting they have tradeable assets that would interest the Flames. Vingan also suggested the Detroit Red Wings as a destination, noting that they have received underwhelming results thus far from 21-year-old center Marco Kasper.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: TSN’s Darren Dreger reported last Thursday that Flames ownership doesn’t want to part with Kadri, who loves Calgary and wants to help the team win. Nevertheless, the more the Flames keep struggling, the more frequently we’ll continue seeing Kadri’s name surface in the rumor mill.

THE MONTREAL GAZETTE: Stu Cowan was recently asked where Oliver Kapanen might fall in the Canadiens’ lineup if they acquire a second-line center. He believes they’re in no rush to make that move, given how well Kapanen and Kirby Dach are playing thus far.

Another reader asked Cowan if it was time for the Canadiens to move on from winger Josh Anderson, who is off to a slow start this season. He doesn’t see them doing so because he still has a year left on his contract, and his heavy game is tailor-made for the playoffs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Canadiens’ solid start to this season means that management can take its time and fully evaluate the second-line center position before deciding to part with valuable assets to address that position. If Kapanen and Dach keep playing well leading up to the trade deadline, management could shift its focus toward other roster issues that may arise by that point.

NHL.COM: Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and two assists while Cale Makar, Parker Kelly, and Jack Drury each tallied twice to thump the Edmonton Oilers 9-1. MacKinnon extended his points streak to eight games as the Avalanche (9-1-5) sits atop the overall standings with 23 points. Connor McDavid replied for the 6-6-3 Oilers, who’ve lost three straight games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: MacKinnon leads all NHL scorers with 23 points and is tied for first with 12 goals. As for the Oilers, this was a humiliating defeat at every level, raising further questions about their viability as a Stanley Cup contender.

Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield scored twice in a 6-2 victory over the Utah Mammoth, extending their points streak to six games (4-0-2) as they sit atop the Atlantic Division with 22 points (10-3-2). Oliver Kapanen and Alex Newhook each had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens. Kailer Yamamoto and Lawson Crouse scored for the 9-6-0 Mammoth, who’ve dropped four of their last five games.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Caufield’s 12 goals tied him with MacKinnon for the league goal-scoring lead.

The Anaheim Ducks picked up their sixth straight win by nipping the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 on an overtime goal by Jacob Trouba. Leo Carlsson scored two goals and set up another as the 10-3-1 Ducks (21 points) opened a three-point lead over the 7-3-4 Golden Knights for first place in the Pacific Division. Pavel Dorofeyev and Kaeden Korczak scored as Vegas overcame a 3-1 deficit in the third period to force overtime.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Ducks are looking like they’re for real this season. Meanwhile, Golden Knights center William Karlsson left this game in the first period with a lower-body injury.

Boston Bruins forward Morgan Geekie had a goal and an assist as his club extended its win streak to six games with a 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jeremy Swayman made 30 saves for the Bruins (10-7-0), who sit second to the Canadiens in the Atlantic Division with 20 points. Nick Robertson, Matias Maccelli, and John Tavares replied for the 8-6-1 Maple Leafs.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Bruins were sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference before their win streak began. Before this game, they placed Elias Lindholm (lower body) on injured reserve. They also played without defenseman Charlie McAvoy and center Casey Mittelstadt. McAvoy was away attending to a personal matter, while Mittelstadt was sidelined by a lower-body injury.

Meanwhile, Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz was pulled from this game in the second period after giving up four goals on 19 shots. Leafs forward Scott Laughton departed with an upper-body injury in the second period.

The San Jose Sharks won their third straight game by downing the Florida Panthers 3-1. Yaroslav Askarov kicked out 38 shots, Macklin Celebrini tallied his 10th goal of the season, and Will Smith collected two assists for the 7-6-3 Sharks. Brad Marchand extended his goal streak to four games for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who are 7-7-1 on the season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The injury-ravaged Panthers lost another player for a significant period as forward Jonah Gadjovich will miss the next three months as he undergoes surgery for an upper-body injury. They’re already missing Aleksander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Dmitry Kulikov, and Tomas Nosek.

New Jersey Devils goalie Jake Allen turned aside 33 shots and Jesper Bratt scored in the shootout for a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Ottawa Senators got two goals from Tim Stutzle, including the winner in overtime, to defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2. Michael Amadio also scored for the 7-5-3 Senators. Matvei Michkov and Jamie Drysdale tallied for the Flyers (8-5-2).

Dallas Stars forwards Adam Erne and Sam Steel scored 47 seconds apart in the third period to lift their club to a 5-4 win over the Nashville Predators. Miro Heiskanen, Wyatt Johntson, and Mavrik Bourque each had two points for the Stars (8-4-3). Ryan O’Reilly and Nick Blakenburg each had two points for the 5-8-4 Predators, who have lost four straight.

The New York Islanders got a 33-save performance from Ilya Sorokin to shut out the New York Rangers 5-0, leaving the latter winless at home thus far this season (0-6-1). Bo Horvat tallied twice and Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Jonathan Drouin each had a goal and two assists for the 7-6-2 Islanders. Igor Shesterkin gave up four goals on 25 shots for the Rangers, who dropped to 7-7-2.

Carolina Hurricanes forwards Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi each had a goal and an assist in a 6-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch each had a goal and an assist for the 5-6-4 Sabres, who’ve lost three straight games. The Hurricanes picked up their third straight win and improved to 10-4-0.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Earlier in the day, the Hurricanes claimed goaltender Cayden Primeau off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs. They also placed defenseman Jalen Chatfield (upper body) on injured reserve.

An overtime goal by Shane Wright gave the Seattle Kraken a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues. Eeli Tolvanen had a goal and two assists for the Kraken as they improved to 7-3-4. Dylan Holloway, Dalibor Dvorsky, and Jordan Kyrou scored for the 5-8-3 Blues.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kraken goaltender Joey Daccord missed this game as he stayed in Seattle to receive treatment for an upper-body injury. They also activated defenseman Ryker Evans off injured reserve for this game. He made his season debut after being sidelined with an upper-body injury suffered during preseason play.

Vancouver Canucks winger Brock Boeser’s third-period goal lifted his club over the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3. Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves as the Canucks improved to 8-8-0. Kirill Marchenko and Dmitri Voronkov each had three points for the Blue Jackets (7-7-0), who have lost three straight games.

THE HOCKEY NEWS: Los Angeles Kings winger Warren Foegele will return to action during Sunday’s game against the Penguins. He’s been sidelined for two weeks with an upper-body injury.

DAILY FACEOFF: Former NHL center and general manager Mel Bridgman passed away on Saturday at age 70.

Selected first overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft, Bridgman spent 14 seasons as a player from 1975-76 to 1988-89 with the Flyers, Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, and Vancouver Canucks. He captained the Flyers from 1979-80 to 1980-81, and the Devils from 1984-85 to 1986-87. Bridgman had 252 goals and 449 assists for 701 points in 977 regular-season games, and 67 points in 125 playoff contests.

After his playing career, Bridgman was named the first general manager of the Ottawa Senators in 1991, a role he held until 1993. He was inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
