RECAPS OF SUNDAY’S GAMES

NHL.COM: Nashville Predators captain Roman Josi had a goal and two assists as his club nipped the Washington Capitals 3-2. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist as the Predators improved to 21-20-4. Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin tallied his 20th goal of the season as his club dropped to 23-17-6.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Ovechkin has reached the 20-goal plateau in each of his 21 NHL seasons, sitting second all-time for the most in league history. Gordie Howe holds the record with 22 seasons. Capitals defenseman Jakob Chychrun missed this game with an illness, while teammate Justin Sourdif left early in the second period with an upper-body injury.

Meanwhile, Stamkos netted his 601st career regular-season NHL goal, tying Jari Kurri for 21st overall among the all-time goal-scoring leaders. He also tallied his 233rd career regular-season power-play goal, moving into 10th all-time in that category.

Former San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl had a career-best five points (two goals, three assists) for the Vegas Golden Knights in a 7-2 victory. Jack Eichel scored twice while Mark Stone and Pavel Dorofeyev each collected three points for the 21-11-12 Golden Knights, who’ve won four straight and hold first place in the Pacific Division with 54 points. Collin Graf and Alexander Wennberg replied for the Sharks (23-19-3) as their three-game win streak ended.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sharks center Macklin Celebrini’s 13-game points streak came to a close. Teammate John Klingberg returned to action after missing the last four games with a lower-body injury.

The Winnipeg Jets picked up their second straight win by defeating the New Jersey Devils 4-3. Tanner Pearson snapped a 3-3 tie in the third period while Cole Perfetti and Josh Morrissey each had two assists for the 17-22-5 Jets. Cody Glass had two goals for the Devils (22-21-2) as they lost their fourth straight game.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jets defenseman Colin Miller missed this game with a lower-body injury. Devils forward Stefan Noesen will miss significant time as he will undergo surgery this week to address a nagging knee issue. The Devils also announced that forward Zack MacEwen underwent season-ending ACL surgery.

Boston Bruins goaltender Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves to shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0. Viktor Arvidsson tallied the only goal as the Bruins (25-19-2) are 5-0-1 in their last six games. Stuart Skinner stopped 17 shots for the 21-14-9 Penguins.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Before this game, the Bruins announced the signing of defenseman Jonathan Aspirot to a two-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $887,500.

An overtime goal by Dmitri Voronkov lifted the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 3-2 win over the Utah Mammoth. Jet Greaves stopped 25 shots, and Kirill Marchenko had two assists for the Blue Jackets, who snapped a four-game losing skid and improved to 19-19-7. Clayton Keller had two assists for the Mammoth (22-20-4) as their three-game win streak ended.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Before this game, the Mammoth announced that forward Alex Kerfoot is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

IN OTHER NEWS…

THE PROVINCE: The Vancouver Canucks placed goaltender Thatcher Demko (lower body) on injured reserve. Earlier this season, the 30-year-old Demko missed 11 games with a groin injury.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Demko’s injury history no longer makes him a reliable starter for the Canucks, which has been a contributing factor to the club’s decline over the past two seasons. Last summer, they signed him to a three-year contract extension with an AAV of $8.5 million.

PHILLY HOCKEY NOW: Flyers winger Travis Konecny left practice on Sunday after taking a puck off his knee. He’s questionable for Monday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

DOUGIE HAMILTON’S DAYS WITH THE DEVILS APPEAR NUMBERED

TSN: Pierre LeBrun reported Saturday afternoon that Dougie Hamilton appears willing to work with the New Jersey Devils to find a suitable trade partner after being listed as a healthy scratch for Sunday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Hamilton’s agent, J.P. Barry, told LeBrun that he considered the decision to scratch his client a calculated one. He said the 32-year-old defenseman is willing to be flexible with his 10-team trade list. Barry indicated that the Devils had attempted to move Hamilton last summer.

In an interview with LeBrun, Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said the decision to scratch Hamilton was made because their blueline is finally healthy, and they wanted to give young defenseman Simon Nemec some playing time after returning from an injury. Another reason is the return of defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic from a knee injury.

NEW JERSEY HOCKEY NOW: James Nichols noted that Hamilton is signed through 2027-28 with an average annual value of $9 million. However, his performance has been disappointing this season, with 10 points in 40 games.

Nichols also noted that there have been previous reports suggesting Hamilton rejected several attempts to trade him earlier this season.

SAN JOSE HOCKEY NOW: Sheng Peng referenced Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, who reported that the Sharks attempted to acquire Hamilton last summer, but the blueliner blocked that deal.

SPORTSNET: Friedman said there are “hard feelings” between Devils management and Hamilton. He feels he’s being singled out for non-performance reasons. Hamilton has no intention of terminating his contract.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Hamilton’s AAV, his injury history, and the recent drop in his production could concern some teams, but he has only missed four games this season before Sunday’s game against the Jets. He’s also a right-shot defenseman with superb puck-moving abilities, and there will be clubs willing to gamble on him returning to form with a more stable roster.

WHICH DEFENSEMEN COULD THE MAPLE LEAFS TARGET?

TORONTO SUN: Terry Koshan believes Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving could be forced to shop for a right-shot defenseman if Chris Tanev’s groin injury turns out to be season-ending.

Koshan mentioned Rasmus Andersson of the Calgary Flames, Justin Faulk of the St. Louis Blues, and former Leaf Luke Schenn of the Winnipeg Jets as possible trade options. Other possibilities include Tyler Myers of the Vancouver Canucks, Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks, and Connor Murphy of the Chicago Blackhawks.

The cost of acquiring any of them could be expensive for the Maple Leafs. They don’t have much trade capital apart from promising forward Easton Cowan and prospect defenseman Ben Danford. Koshan suggested that they may have already made their most significant acquisition when they plucked Troy Stecher off waivers in November.

THE ATHLETIC: Jonas Siegel looked at what it could cost the Maple Leafs to acquire Andersson, Faulk, or Schenn.

He considered Andersson out of the Maple Leafs’ price range, and doesn’t think taking on the 34-year-old Faulk’s contract ($6.5 million through 2026-27) to be a good idea. Schenn would be the most affordable in terms of contract ($2.75 million for this season), as well as the potential cost of the return.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Leafs have already sacrificed way too much of their future in deals that didn’t bring them any closer to ending their long Stanley Cup drought. It would be insane to part with what few significant assets they have left for players who won’t significantly improve their odds of winning the Cup.

THE LATEST CANUCKS SPECULATION (NON-KIEFER SHERWOOD EDITION)

OILERS NATION: Zach Laing cited CHEK-TV’s Rick Dhaliwal’s appearance on Friday’s episode of Sportsnet’s Halford & Brough In The Morning, where he talked about the difficulty the Vancouver Canucks could face if they attempt to trade Evander Kane.

Moving Kane could be tough, with one team saying, “Have fun moving him.” The 34-year-old winger’s age, AAV ($5.125 million), 16-team approved trade list, injuries, and reduced production adversely affect his trade value.

Dhaliwal said two sources told him the Canucks tried trading Kane back to the Edmonton Oilers. However, his Edmonton source indicated that ship had sailed.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It seems like Kane’s season, and perhaps his NHL career, will end in Vancouver. Too many factors make it difficult to move him now.

THE PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma recently wondered if Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers might consider waiving his no-movement clause to go to a contender before the March 6 trade deadline.

Myers turns 36 in February and has a year remaining on his contract with an affordable cap hit of $3 million. Kuzma believes the 6’8” blueliner would benefit a team needing second or third-pairing experience.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Myers and his family love Vancouver, which is why he’s stuck with the Canucks for six seasons. However, he’s nearing the end of his playing days, and his chances of winning the Stanley Cup are narrowing.

The latest on Flames forward Nazem Kadri, the Canadiens could be interested in Flames winger Blake Coleman, the Hurricanes are entertaining offers for Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and the latest on the Devils in today’s NHL Rumor Mill.

NAZEM KADRI COULD BE OPEN TO A TRADE

TSN: Darren Dreger believes Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri would be willing to listen if an opportunity to be traded to a contender came along.

Kadri, 35, is signed through 2028-29 with an average annual value of $7 million and a 13-team no-trade list.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Trade rumors were buzzing about Kadri earlier this season, but Flames ownership said they had no intention of moving him. However, it appears to be a different story if he wants to be moved, or if a contender comes calling with a good offer, whether those offers come before the March 6 trade deadline remains to be seen.

CANADIENS INTERESTED IN FLAMES WINGER BLAKE COLEMAN

TSN: Pierre LeBrun thinks Flames winger Blake Coleman is high on the Montreal Canadiens’ list of trade targets. The 34-year-old is a two-time Stanley Cup champion and would bring a measure of physicality, veteran leadership, and versatility to the Canadiens’ roster.

Coleman is signed through 2026-27 with an AAV of $4.9 million. He also has a 10-team no-trade list.

LeBrun said nothing is imminent with the Canadiens. They intend to wait until the Olympic break in February to gauge the health of their roster and their position in the standings before pursuing that type of deal.

MONTREAL HOCKEY NOW: Marc Dumont appreciates Coleman’s skills, but he’s skeptical that the Canadiens will pursue him.

Dumont pointed out that Alexandre Texier’s play negates some of what Coleman would bring to the lineup. He also expressed concern that Coleman’s shooting percentage might collapse, turning him into an expensive bottom-six forward. There is currently no pressing need to make that move.

RG.ORG: Marco D’Amico indicated that the Canadiens are ahead of schedule with their rebuild and will soon be getting their sidelined players back in the lineup. They’re open to adding physical, middle-six scoring forwards, but they’re not under pressure to do so.

The Canadiens are dealing from a position of strength. They can afford to be patient and wait for value rather than overpaying to keep pace. Management is still prioritizing long-term impact over short-term optics.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Coleman wouldn’t be a rental player for the Canadiens, provided they’re not on his no-trade list. However, General Manager Kent Hughes’ trade history suggests he won’t overpay to acquire him. LeBrun also stressed that Coleman is among several players on the Canadiens’ trade targets list.

HURRICANES LISTENING TO OFFERS FOR JESPERI KOTKANIEMI

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports several sources claim the Carolina Hurricanes are considering trade offers for Jesperi Kotkaniemi. They want something in return that can help them now or something they can use to acquire something that can provide immediate help.

The Hurricanes successfully signed away Kotkaniemi from the Canadiens with an offer sheet in 2021, and later signed him to an eight-year deal with an AAV of $4.82 million.

Friedman said the Hurricanes have used the 25-year-old Kotkaniemi in recent trade discussions when they attempted to acquire Phillip Danault from the Los Angeles Kings and Quinn Hughes from the Vancouver Canucks. Danault was traded to the Canadiens, and Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Kotkaniemi struggled to establish himself as a reliable middle-six center with the Hurricanes. Given the lack of centers in the trade market, Friedman believes he’s drawing legitimate interest from other clubs.

LATEST ON THE DEVILS

TSN: Darren Dreger reports New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald is trying to shake up his struggling roster. He’s aggressively searching for a top-six forward, but things are quiet in the trade market right now.

NEW JERSEY HOCKEY NOW: James Nichols believes the Devils must make some changes to their roster if they’re not going to shake things up in the front office or behind the bench.

He noted the Devils attempted to move defenseman Dougie Hamilton and winger Ondrej Palat earlier this season. Those moves seem more likely in the offseason when things are more flexible.

Nichols suggested it may be time to consider moving a core player. He felt that management should speak with Jack and Luke Hughes to determine how committed they are to the organization after the Devils’ failed attempt to acquire brother Quinn Hughes. Otherwise, it may be time to look at Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier, and team captain Nico Hischier

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Devils supporters are roasting Fitzgerald on social media, but it doesn’t sound as though he’s on the hot seat with ownership. Dreger said he speaks to ownership every week, and they know what direction he wants to take this team.

Barring a strong second-half turnaround, the Devils might face some difficult questions regarding the core of their roster. They’ve struggled to regain their once-promising 2022-23 form, when they finished with the best record in franchise history.

A record-setting performance by Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin, Oilers captain Connor McDavid extends his points streak, the Lightning extend their win streak, and more in today’s NHL Morning Coffee Headlines.

RECAPS OF TUESDAY’S GAMES

NHL.COM: Ilya Sorokin kicked out 44 shots to set the New York Islanders’ record for most shutouts (26) as his club crushed the New Jersey Devils 9-0. Anthony Duclair tallied a hat trick in a career-high five-point performance while Mathew Barzal, Casey Cizikas, and Tony DeAngelo each collected three points for the 24-15-2 Islanders. Jacob Markstrom gave up nine goals on 24 shots for the Devils (22-19-2).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The struggling Devils’ tumble in the standings has raised concern among the club’s fans. That’s putting pressure on general manager Tom Fitzgerald, who has come up short in his trade attempts thus far.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid extended his points streak to 16 games with a hat trick in a 6-2 victory over the Nashville Predators. Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists for the Oilers, who improved to 21-16-6. Ryan O’Reilly and Nick Blakenburg replied for the 19-19-4 Predators.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Oilers scratched forwards Andrew Mangiapane and Trent Frederic from this game. Mangiapane has been a frequent healthy scratch since last week, becoming the subject of trade rumors. He and Frederic were signed last summer to bolster the Oilers’ forward depth, but they haven’t panned out thus far. Mangiapane is in the first year of a two-year contract, while Frederic’s is an eight-year deal.

The Tampa Bay Lightning picked up their eighth straight victory by doubling up the Colorado Avalanche 4-2. Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov had two assists to extend his points streak to eight games for the 26-13-3 Lightning, who hold first place in the Eastern Conference with 55 points. Parker Kelly and Brock Nelson were the goal scorers for the league-leading Avalanche (31-4-7, 69 points), who lost consecutive games for the first time since Oct. 26.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Before the game, the Avalanche announced that captain Gabriel Landeskog and defenseman Devon Toews are week-to-week with upper-body injuries. Landeskog could miss a few weeks, but it’s too early to rule him out for the Winter Olympics in February.

Philadelphia Flyers forward Trevor Zegras scored twice against his former team in a 5-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Cam York and Nikita Grebenkin each had a goal and an assist for the 22-12-7 Flyers. Cutter Gauthier and Alex Killorn tallied for the Ducks (21-19-3) as they’re winless in seven games (0-6-1).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: It was Gauthier’s first goal against the club that drafted him. Flyers winger Matvei Michkov missed this game with an injured foot, while Flyers forward Bobby Brink and defenseman Jamie Drysdale left this game with injuries. As for the Ducks, they placed forward Nikita Nesterenko on waivers before this game.

The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Florida Panthers 4-1. Matthew Knies had a goal and an assist, and Auston Matthews scored his sixth goal in the last three games for the 20-15-7 Maple Leafs to extend their point streak to seven games (5-0-2). Carter Verhaeghe replied for the Panthers (22-17-3).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Panthers winger Brad Marchand tried to stir the pot before this game, telling reporters it was between the Panthers and Maple Leafs this summer before choosing to stay in Florida. He also trolled Toronto fans, claiming they drove former Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner out of town. Marchand exited in the third period for precautionary reasons following a hit by Leafs forward Bobby McMann.

Speaking of the Maple Leafs, defenseman Brandon Carlo returned to action after being sidelined by a foot injury since Nov. 13.

An overtime goal by Tomas Hertl lifted the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets, leaving the latter winless in 10 games (0-6-4). Mark Stone scored to extend his goal streak to five games for the 18-11-12 Golden Knights, who hold first place in the Pacific Division with 48 points. Cole Perfetti, Luke Schenn, and Kyle Connor replied for the 15-21-5 Jets.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury was stretchered from this game with a broken nose in the first period after losing his balance and crashing into the end boards.

San Jose Sharks center Macklin Celebrini scored to extend his points streak to 11 games in a 5-2 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Alexander Wennberg had a goal and two assists for the Sharks (21-18-3), as they’ve won four of their last five games. Zach Werenski and Sean Monahan scored for the Blue Jackets (18-17-7) as they’ve dropped three of their last four contests (1-2-1).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Monahan returned to action after missing the last four games. Earlier in the day, they signed former Pittsburgh Penguins and Flyers defenseman Egor Zamula after his contract with the Penguins was terminated.

The Buffalo Sabres held off the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 5-3. Alex Tuch had a goal and an assist, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 32 shots for the Sabres (22-15-4), who’ve won 11 of their last 12 games. Brock Boeser had two assists for the Canucks (16-21-5), leaving them winless in their last four games(0-2-2).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sabres forward Jason Zucker returned to the lineup after missing 11 games with a lower-body injury.

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman K’Andre Miller tallied twice and picked up an assist in a 6-3 victory over the Dallas Stars. Andrei Svechnikov collected four assists for the 26-14-3 Hurricanes, who hold first place in the Metropolitan Division with 55 points. Jason Robertson had a goal and two assists, and Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist against his former club, but the Stars (25-10-8) are winless in their last six games (0-3-3).

Seattle Kraken rookie Berkly Catton scored his first two NHL goals as his club defeated the Boston Bruins 7-4. Kaapo Kakko had two goals and an assist for the Kraken (20-14-7), who have won four straight and eight of their last nine contests. David Pastrnak tallied twice for the 22-19-2 Bruins.

SPORTSNET: International Ice Hockey Federation president Luc Tardif remains confident that construction on the main arena for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics will be ready in time for the games.

The seating capacity is set at 11,800, which is smaller than expected. Construction on parts of the arena might not be fully finished on time, but the playing surface, practice facilities, and dressing rooms will be ready.

TSN: Speaking of the Winter Olympics, the Czech Republic named 12 NHL players to their Men’s Hockey Team. They include goaltenders Lukas Dostal of the Anaheim Ducks, Karel Vejmelka of the Utah Mammoth, and Daniel Vladar of the Philadelphia Flyers.

In today’s NHL Rumor Mill, the latest on Canucks forwards Kiefer Sherwood and Jake DeBrusk, plus an update on the trade rumors swirling about Oilers winger Andrew Mangiapane.

THE LATEST CANUCKS SPECULATION

THE PROVINCE: Ben Kuzma and Patrick Johnston are skeptical that the Vancouver Canucks will re-sign Kiefer Sherwood.

Both pundits took note of Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman’s report on Saturday about the Canucks making another contract offer to the Sherwood camp. The 30-year-old winger is on pace for a career-best season. He’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Kuzma stated the prospect of the Canucks re-signing Sherwood is “highly unlikely,” claiming there’s not much appetite on their part to triple his $1.5 million salary. He also suggested that Sherwood could fetch a good return for the rebuilding Canucks, pointing to the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins as possible suitors.

Johnson didn’t rule out the possibility of the Canucks re-signing Sherwood. However, he doesn’t consider it likely after checking with his sources. Like Kuzma, he believes Sherwood will have more value to the Canucks as a trade chip.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Canucks set in motion their rebuilding plans when they traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild last month. That made it all but certain that Sherwood will be moved before the March 6 trade deadline.

SPORTSNET: Michael Amato believes a playoff contender should attempt to acquire Jake DeBrusk from the Canucks.

DeBrusk is struggling in his second season in Vancouver, but the 29-year-old winger’s playoff experience would make him a good middle-six option for a contender seeking scoring depth. He also carries a reasonable annual average value of $5.5 million over the next five seasons.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: DeBrusk has a full no-movement clause until 2027, but he might waive it for an opportunity to go to a contender. He hasn’t surfaced in the rumor mill yet, but the Canucks might be willing to listen to offers, especially if it involves young NHL players or high draft picks.

NO DEAL YET FOR ANDREW MANGIAPANE

EDMONTON JOURNAL: NHL insider Frank Seravalli told Oilers Now host Bob Stauffer that he felt the Oilers aren’t close to getting a trade done for Andrew Mangiapane.

Seravalli believes the Oilers have been in contact with a couple of teams. He thinks the second year of Mangiapane’s contract is a detriment, but they’re trying to work through that.

Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews set a franchise goal record, the Avalanche made history as they extended their win streak to 10 games, and more in today’s NHL Morning Coffee Headlines.

NHL.COM: Auston Matthews scored twice to become the Toronto Maple Leafs’ all-time goal-scoring leader (421) in a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders. Matthew Schaefer tallied twice, including the winning goal, for the 23-15-4 Islanders, while the Maple Leafs (19-15-7) extended their points streak to six games (4-0-2).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Matthews moved past Mats Sundin, who held the previous record of 420 goals for 18 seasons. It was also a milestone game for Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who played in his 1,100th NHL regular-season game.

Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and three assists to rally his club from a 3-1 deficit to defeat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3. Brock Nelson scored two goals for the league-leading Avalanche (31-2-7, 69 points), as they extended their win streak to 10 games. Sebastian Aho had a goal and an assist for the 24-14-3 Hurricanes, who have lost three straight games but remain in first place in the Metropolitan Division.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: The Avalanche became the fourth team in NHL history to post two double-digit win streaks in one season, joining the 2019-20 Tampa Bay Lightning, the 1970-71 Boston Bruins, and the 1929-30 Bruins. Meanwhile, Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns played his 965th straight NHL regular-season game, which is the third-most in league history.

Nikita Kucherov had a goal and four assists, and teammate Darren Raddysh tallied his first career NHL hat trick, as the Tampa Bay Lightning rolled to a 7-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Pavol Regenda scored all three goals for the Sharks (20-18-3) as their three-game win streak ended. The Lightning picked up their seventh straight victory, improving to 25-13-3 and taking over first place in the Eastern Conference with 53 points.

The Buffalo Sabres’ 10-game win streak ended in a 5-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Denton Mateychuk had a goal and an assist, and Jet Greaves stopped 31 shots for the Blue Jackets (18-16-6), who’ve won four of their last five games. Josh Doan replied for the 21-15-4 Sabres.

Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno’s shootout goal lifted his club over the Washington Capitals by a score of 3-2. Spencer Knight made 32 saves for the 16-18-7 Blackhawks. Dylan Strome and Ryan Leonard scored for the Capitals (21-15-6), who have only four wins in their last 14 games (4-6-4).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Washington winger Tom Wilson left in the first period with an injured right leg. Following the game, head coach Spencer Carbery said he thought Wilson’s injury wasn’t too bad, and they’ll know more on Sunday. Meanwhile, Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas was a late scratch with a lower-body injury.

The Ottawa Senators doubled up the Winnipeg Jets 4-2. Thomas Chabot scored two goals, and Tim Stutzle picked up an assist to extend his points streak to 12 games for the 20-15-5 Senators. Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist for the Jets (15-21-4) as their winless skid reached nine games (0-6-3).

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Jets defenseman Logan Stanley got into a tussle with Senators captain Brady Tkachuk, ending with Stanley dropping Tkachuk with a sucker punch. Stanley received two roughing penalties, while Tkachuk was handed a misconduct penalty.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby collected two assists in a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings. Yegor Chinakhov scored his first goal for Pittsburgh since being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets last week, as the Penguins (19-12-9) have won four straight games. Alex DeBrincat replied for the 24-15-4 Red Wings, who were limited to 12 shots in this contest.

Travis Sanheim and Owen Tippett each had a goal and an assist, and rookie forward Denver Barkey tallied his first NHL goal for the 21-12-7 Flyers. Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to 15 games for the Oilers (20-16-2), who remain in first place in the Pacific Division with 46 points.

St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington made 25 saves for his first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens, ending the latter’s points streak at seven games. Jonatan Berggren and Robert Thomas scored for the 17-18-8 Blues, while Jacob Fowler turned aside 17 shots for the 22-13-6 Canadiens.

A shootout goal by Brandt Clarke gave the Los Angeles Kings a 5-4 victory against the Minnesota Wild. Quinton Byfield had a goal and an assist for the Kings as they improved to 17-14-9 on the season. Brock Faber had a goal and an assist, and Jesper Wallstedt made 35 saves for the 25-10-8 Wild.

The Boston Bruins got an overtime goal from Vancouver native Fraser Minten for a 3-2 win over the Canucks. Minten finished with two goals against his hometown club, and Jeremy Swayman kicked out 31 shots for the Bruins (22-18-2). Filip Hronek had a goal and an assist for the 16-20-5 Canucks, who are winless in their last three games (0-1-2).

New Jersey Devils winger Jesper Bratt had a goal and an assist as his club defeated the Utah Mammoth 4-1. Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 shots while Jack Hughes and Brett Pesce each had two assists for the Devils (22-17-2). Michael Carcone replied for the 19-20-3 Mammoth.

Nashville Predators forward Michael Bunting had a goal and three assists as his club nipped the Calgary Flames by a score of 4-3. Erik Haula tallied two goals for the Predators, who improved to 19-18-4. Dustin Wolf stopped 32 shots, and Matt Coronato collected two assists for the Flames (18-19-4) as their three-game win streak ended.
