ESPN.COM: Pierre LeBrun on Friday reported Alex Tanguay's agent admitted talking with several teams and have had a few offers but they're being patient in terms of money and term. The Canadiens are not on their list, the Phoenix Coyotes are interested but given their ownership problems it's unclear what they could offer, while the Detroit Red Wings could possibly seek a cheaper alternative than Tanguay if forced to find a replacement for Jiri Hudler. Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray expressed admiration for Tanguay but said currently his club lacks the cap space to sign him...The San Jose Sharks appear the only promising option at this point for a possible trade of Dany Heatley. GM Doug Wilson has yet to make the kind of moves expected to shake up his roster...A source close to Mathieu Schneider claims the veteran blueliner has been speaking seriously with three NHL teams.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Tanguay will likely have to accept less than the $5.35 million per season he earned under his previous contract...The Sharks are probably the only club remaining on Heatley's wish list which might be willing to make a deal for him, otherwise he'll have to consider accepting a move to Edmonton if he truly wants out of Ottawa...Schneider would be an affordable pickup for a team seeking a power-play blueline specialist but he's no longer capable of big minutes.
EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reported Saturday several notable players are still available, including Tanguay, Martin Biron and Sergei Zubov.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: All three could perhaps find new homes by the end of this week but they'll have to accept considerably less than what they made under their previous contracts as there's only a narrow list of teams interested in them.
NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks reports on the possibility the Flyers might be able to get out from under Chris Pronger's long term contract under the next CBA where perhaps there could be another round of salary rollbacks and amnesty buyouts. Brooks also suggested a possible "recalibration" by the league to perhaps accommodate a decrease in the cap for the 2010-11 season...The Chicago Blackhawks blundering regarding their restricted free agents this summer will leave them little room to re-sign Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith next summer, which could force them between choosing which one they could lose to an offer sheet or perhaps trading Patrick Sharp, Dave Bolland or Brent Seabrook to dump salary...Brooks suggests how tempting it might be for the Rangers to offer up center Brandon Dubinsky and his $698K qualifier to the cash-strapped Bruins for veteran center Marc Savard and his $5 million per season contract, a move which could allow the Bruins to re-sign Phil Kessel.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: It's possible the Flyers could get out of the back end of Pronger's contract under a new CBA but I don't believe the league is allowed to "recalibrate" under the current CBA as it's my understanding any changes would have to have the blessing of the NHLPA. Contracts are guaranteed under this CBA so there can't be any rollbacks or amnesty buyouts. The Blackhawks certainly will have to move some salary to retain Toews, Kane and Keith...the problem with the Bruins moving Savard is he has a no-trade clause, plus the Bruins probably aren't interested in moving him.
DALLAS MORNING NEWS: Mike Heika recently reported Sergei Zubov remains interested in returning with the Stars but several other teams have expressed some interest but concerns remain over his health....As for the rumors of Brad Richards being traded that's originating out of New York, based on the Rangers need for a first line center. The Stars love Richards and want to keep him although his $7.8 million per season salary takes a big chunk out of their payroll. Heika suggests the only way they'd move Richards to the Rangers is if they offered up a ridiculous return.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Zubov could be an affordable signing if he's willing to accept a one-year, bonus-laden deal...I wasn't buying into any of the trade talk involving Richards. Yes, his salary is expensive but the Stars new management have given no indication about moving him. There's also the little matter of his"no-movement" clause, which he did waive to facilitate a trade to Dallas but he might not be so keen to do so a second time. His movement clause followed him to Dallas.
COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Aaron Portzline reports not to believe internet reports claiming the Blue Jackets were talking to the Senators about acquiring Dany Heatley...Manny Malholtra won't be back with the Blue Jackets but Portzline expressed surprise he's still available...word is the NY Rangers could part ways with Nikolai Zherdev now that they've acquired Ales Kotalik.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Those rumors of the Blue Jackets acquiring Heatley were laughable considering their depth on the wings, the fact Heatley and Rick Nash (who was supposedly stumping for this trade) play the same position, and the Jackets need for an experienced puck-moving blueliner....The Leafs were earlier this summer rumored to be a potential destination for Malholtra.
MLIVE.COM: George James Malik has a complete round-up of reports regarding Jiri Hudler's contract situation.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: As always Malik does a fine job keeping tabs on all things Red Wings and the Hudler situation is no exception.
HOKEJ.CZ: reports Sandis Ozolinsh has signed a one year contract with Dinamo Riga of the KHL...Marek Malik is still waiting to see if he'll be playing in the NHL next season, which is his first priority. He expects a final decision in August and it already seems obvious to him he won't be back with the Tampa Bay Lightning...
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Hat tip to Alexander Wirdzek.
