  1. I know not every team has played the same amount of games but Carolina,Edmonton and Boston had double digit wins in October. Does that surprise team belong with the other 2?

  2. Re “The Lightning released a statement on Friday saying they weren’t trading Kucherov. His agent, Dan Milstein, shot down the likelihood of his client withholding his services to force a move.”

I can see why BriseBois and Milstein have taken that stance. This is a team growing long in the tooth, but nevertheless still good enough for perhaps one last good kick at the can, and their chances of winning a Cup are obviously much better with Kucherov in the line-up.

If, indeed, that is their stance, and they don’t happen to go all the way, not only does Tampa see Kucherov depart without getting anything back, but a lot of the rest of the aging part of that roster could also be on the move. In short, the start of a re-build.

A full 48% are aged 30 and up, with Point (30) being the youngest of that group. Guentzel, Vasilevsky, Mikheyev, and Girgensons are all 32, Kucherov is 33, Gourde and Sabourin 34 each, Hedman 35, Carlson 36 and McDonaugh 37.

Adding to all that – if they are facing a re-build – is the fact that BriseBois doesn’t have either his 2027 or 2028 1st round pick as a result of a multi-team deal in which Seattle gets the 2027 pick if it falls outside the protected top 10 range, or the 2028 pick if 2027 turns out to be Top 10. Nor does he have the 2027 3rd (dealt to Chicago for prospect Jack Pridham), and 5th (dealt to Arizona for Dumba).
