NHL Rumor Mill – July 23, 2021

by | Jul 23, 2021 | Rumors | 81 comments

The 2021 NHL Draft begins tonight at 8 pm ET. Check out all the latest speculation leading up to the start of round one in today’s NHL rumor mill.

BLACKHAWKS STILL TRYING TO LAND SETH JONES

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports the Chicago Blackhawks are taking another run at acquiring defenseman Seth Jones from the Columbus Blue Jackets without parting with Alex DeBrincat or Kirby Dach in return. It’s believed the Blackhawks are one of the teams that could secure a long-term contract extension from Jones.

RECENT RANGERS SPECULATION

DAILY FACEOFF: Frank Seravalli wonders if the New York Rangers are trying to put together an offer for Buffalo Sabres center Jack Eichel. They’ve been calling teams that hold a pick in the top-10 in this year’s draft.

In other Rangers speculation, they’ve been trying to move Pavel Buchnevich for some time. Ryan Strome has been linked to the Seattle Kraken. Seravalli wondered if the Vegas Golden Knights might be interested given their need for centers.

The Rangers have sought suitors for backup goalie Alexandar Georgiev with a first-round pick as the asking price. He pondered the possibility of the Rangers attempting to acquire Jonathan Marchessault or Reilly Smith from the Vegas Golden Knights.

NEW YORK POST: Larry Brooks also reported the Rangers are shopping Buchnevich, in part to ensure sufficient long-term cap space. He believes they must find suitable linemates for third-line forward Barclay Goodrow after signing him yesterday to a six-year contract.

TARASENKO COULD STAY IN ST. LOUIS

STLTODAY.COM: Jim Thomas reports Blues GM Doug Armstrong said he can envision a scenario whereby Vladimir Tarasenko returns with the club next season. Armstrong is attempting to fulfill Tarasenko’s trade request but this could be his way of signaling to the Tarasenko camp and the rest of the league that he’s not giving the winger away.

SABRES SET ASKING PRICE FOR REINHART

WGR 550: Elliotte Friedman reports the Buffalo Sabres are receiving plenty of interest in center Sam Reinhart. Their asking price is said to be a first-round pick and a prospect. Reinhart, 25, is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights.

LATEST ON THE OILERS

TSN: Darren Dreger reports contract discussions are ongoing between the Edmonton Oilers and winger Zach Hyman but some believe the Toronto Maple Leafs aren’t out of it yet. If the Oilers want that eighth year in Hyman’s contract it will have to be a sign-and-trade with the Leafs.

Dreger also reports they’re continuing to discuss a possible re-signing with defenseman Tyson Barrie. The Oilers, Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks all have interest in Buffalo Sabres blueliner Rasmus Ristolainen.

DAILY FACEOFF: Frank Seravalli wonders if the Oilers could be a dark horse candidate for Carolina Hurricanes free-agent defenseman Dougie Hamilton. They’re expected to clear cap space by buying out James Neal and there’s talk of moving winger Zack Kassian. He’s also not sold on Ethan Bear being in Edmonton for the long haul.

IN OTHER RUMORS…

TSN: Pierre LeBrun reports the Tampa Bay Lightning are once again trying to trade winger Tyler Johnson. He has three years left on his contract with an annual average value of $5 million and 22 teams on his partial no-trade list.

The Montreal Canadiens have spoken to the Sabres about Rasmus Ristolainen. They could also have some interest in the Lightning’s pending UFA defenseman David Savard if his asking price isn’t too costly. The Habs are looking to plug a hole in their blueline with Shea Weber expected to be sidelined for all of next season and possibly longer.

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alec Martinez is mulling a contract offer from the club. He’s slated to become a UFA on July 28.

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports free agent Ryan Suter could decide as early as Monday over which team he’ll sign with. The former Minnesota Wild defenseman has drawn interest from the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and New York Islanders.

It’s believed the Vancouver Canucks have given Braden Holtby’s representatives permission to speak with other teams about a possible trade.

THE ATHLETIC: Kevin Kurz reports hearing San Jose Sharks winger Timo Meier could be in play. He wondered if the New Jersey Devils might be interested in uniting Meier with countryman Nico Hischier.

THE PROVINCE: Canucks GM Jim Benning admitted he’s had teams calling to inquire about defenseman Nate Schmidt. He said he didn’t put Schmidt out there in the trade market nor has the blueliner requested to be dealt.

DAILY FACEOFF: The Carolina Hurricanes are working to find a new home for defenseman Jake Bean. There’s also interest in Hurricanes winger Warren Foegele.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Quick and dirty rumor list today as I prepare for the opening round of the draft this evening. As always, feel free to weigh in with your thoughts on today’s speculation.

  1. David Savard would be a solid 2nd pairing RD for a team that has a puck moving 1st pairing RD who contributes offense, which the Habs have, as well as a puck moving LD who contributes offense, which they certainly do not have.
As Chiarot and Edmundson are certainly not going anywhere, the Habs need a RD who will provide offense. Ristoleinen, Hamilton, Barrie, Subban would be acceptable options, or even Schmidt, who has played the right side.
Savard would leave them with a D-corps that, except for Petry, would provide minimal puck-moving options, which, in turn, would hamstring their forwards.

    • Howard,

Montreal needs two RD at this point.

imo Savard is the 3rd line RD, with the bonus of being de souche.

Barrie is too small and not too good on the defensive side for the way the Habs are built.

Risto is punishing, huge, and brings a little O also.
He’s the best option, again imo.
But will Buff trade within the Division?

Montour smaller, but a puck mover who plays both sides.
      And would cost no assets.

      LD is full.
None of Romanov, Chiarot or Edmunson is going anywhere.
      Kulak #4 on the L.

      rich

      • Risto gone to Phil- what a haul for Buff.

Howie, I was wrong on what they’d get for him, my bad.

        rich

      • Now that Risto is no longer an option, I’m thinking that signing both Savard and Montour may be a good idea. Savard would add size and leadership. Montour would add some offense, though not as much as Risto. During his first two seasons, mostly with Anaheim, he scored 35 or so points each year. He could bounce back away from the Buffalo mess. The two of them together would probably come in at about 6.5m. combined, leaving room for a good forward or two.

    • Savard might also be a target of Dorion’s to play alongside Chabot.

      • And Edmonton

  2. What’s the sweetener TBL will do as far as cap?
They haven’t been able to give Johnson away and he’s a guy who would improve most teams.

Will they package him and Cernak or Sergachev for draft picks?

    Habs would be a customer.

    • Habfan30

Johnson is a decent player making $5M a season. He also has a 22 team no trade list.
He averages .61ppg but could do more if he had a better opportunity higher up in another team’s line up. He’s listed as a RW, C.

Would he be a fit as MTL #2C as it looked like Suzuki is #1C and KK could be used at #3C.

MTL has a boat load of picks in this year’s draft. They own PHI 5th round pick. If they can’t re-sign Danault Johnson might be a good option.

I know they’re divisional rivals but TB has to do something to get under the cap

    • habfan30 Wont happen in a million years, or Hamilton due to COVID 19 restrictions, also taxes and weather are a factor.

      • elaeskimos,
        never in a million years?

        Arizona Coyotes
        Acquire
        Shayne Gostisbehere

        plus 2022 second-round pick

        plus 2022 seventh-round pick

        Philadelphia Flyers
        Acquire
        NO RETURN

        Arizona Coyotes
        Acquire
        Andrew Ladd

        plus Second-round pick (2021)

        plus Conditional second-round pick (2022)

        plus Conditional third-round pick (2023)

        New York Islanders
        Acquire
        NO RETURN

It’s happened already, my suggestion at least sends draft picks back 🙂

Hamilton? never mentioned him and have 0 interest, couldn’t handle the pressure in Boston and Calgary, not a chance in Montreal.

    • There’s no way they trade Sergachev in my opinion. I think they’ll try and move forwards and back fill from within the organization…

  3. Best case scenario for the Oilers, Leaf demands to high and Hyman signs for 7yrs.

    • agreed

    • Best case for the Oilers is for Holland to sober up and avoid making a massive mistake.

Hyman, 7 or 8 years at 6 or 7 million? Contract runs until hes 36 or 37 years old.

      Bad, bad, beyond bad.

      • Holland has clearly decided the window is the next 5 years . The nuge deal and Hyman speculation is all the proof you should need . Most posters on here and a lot in the media have said for years , holland has to surround mcdavid and draisaitl now , in there primes . That is what he is doing , he’s said it at his pressers , he doesn’t love these terms either but he’s willing to trade term for the cap hit he’s after right now . Getting nuge at 5.125 and Hyman at 5-5.5 depending on length of term is a win for the now . The trouble is kicked down the road , it’s about the next 5 years . He also said a buyout was coming , so with Neal buyout , possibly koskinen or a trade with sweetener and klefbom going to ltir he will have lots of room to add a d man , goalie and veteran 3 c. The 3 rfa I expect to be re signed (benson Khaira and Yamamoto) should come in around 3.5 combined. Holland took over and took a 25th place team to 12th , then 11th , now he has some space for the first time , let’s give him a chance to finish what he has started this off season before slamming him.

      • Read a report on TheScore by Sean O’Leary that Hyman has signed with the Oilers for $5 or $5.5 million. Just waiting to see if the Leafs make it a 8 years with a sign and trade or a 7 years signed on the 28th.

  4. Sharks would be crazy to trade Meier.

    • Don’t underestimate Wilson’s tendency to be crazy. He showed that when he gave up a King’s ransom for Karlsson.

    • Meier will need to be qualified at 10 million in 2 years when his contract expires. He is a solid young winger who had a down year last year but his value takes a bit of a hit because of his RFA qualifying number.

      • Fergy, dead on right. So he is a two year rental for any team – not giving up a ton for that. Its amazing how mismanaged the Sharks are salary wise. how does Wilson still have a job????

  5. To BUF: Voracek ($1.75m retained)
    To PHI:: Risto & Tage

Buff is going to need some scoring if they trade both Reinhart & Eichel . Voracek is not young anymore but certainly no pushover either.

Then call to see if Benning would do a Holtby for JVR and equal out the dollars.

    • Flyers have little need for a 4 million dollar backup. Plenty of better cheaper options available.

      • Ron I know but I say this incase Hart crashes ad burns again at least a cup winning goalie can carry the load a bit. Also different mindset from previous “mentors” Hart had.

  6. Voracek (1.75 held) to Buf for Risto & Tage ??

Buff might need scoring with both Eichel & Reinhart potentially being gone.

Perhaps Benning will fall for JVR for Holtby and equal out the dollars??

    • Hi IHC

      another “silly” morning for me

When I read “ Perhaps Benning will fall for JVR for Holtby and equal out the dollars??”

My mind somehow jumped to the scene in Beverly HillsCop with Eddie Murphy saying “I ain’t fallin’ for no Banana in the tailpipe trick”

      I think I need a second Tim’s

      • LOL

      • @ Pengy..Risto to Philly and they already added Ryan Ellis they will be tougher.

You know Satin sweet Lou will do something to get the Islanders over the hump…Lying in the weeds for Landeskog also maybe Parise Suter as a back up plan.

Rangers add Goodrow and maybe more soon.

Devils added Ryan Graves big rugged solid defenseman + 55 over the last three years

        Washington is always sneaky.

Penguins crickets….oh yeah we lose Mccann and Tanev..

Pengy you hearing anything on the Penguins ?
The only thing I heard was Burke and Hextall still tinkering with Fluery AGAIN…

we need two defenseman period we are not good enough back there..

      • Hi BnG

I’m hearing crickets as well ….

Well that’s not completely true… I’m hearing myself and many Pens fans moan as Hextall does nothing ; AFTER losing McC for basically nada…. There is no UFA in the NHL that I can even fathom, that will be on par flex-wise production-wise to McC… that will cost $2.9 M or less

        He blew that huge

The better move was protecting McC; exposing Teddy and Turbo…. Likely Francis takes Blueger…. easily replaced by Gaudreau . If Francis takes Turbo…. Like he has… Pens still have McC and Blueger

Yes $6.4 M freed up… but he has to replace Turbo and McC with UFAs…. that level of players … will cost $6 M, and be older and likely less productive

Hextall setting a path for missing the playoffs

Now… he can redeem himself by unloading Zucker and likely Pettersson…. with the 4 lost that’s $16 M…. that $16 M can be used to get 4 replacements in the UFA market

Less if P-O J boots in at 3LD for Pettersson

        Re-sign Ceci…. $2M max

That leaves $13 M plus to replace Zucker, Turbo, McC

Poulin should also be up as 3rd line winger

Landeskog and Hoffman…. Bob’s your uncle

If Zucker stays…. any reasonable cap flex gone…. and odds of making the playoffs…. Very slim

        😡💩🤬

      • @Pengy..saw a report from Servalli the guy who got the scoop first on the leaked expansion draft names.

He said Bruins Yotes talking.. OEL/Garland/and yes Phil Kessel come home… yikes

i would take Connor Garland in a second he is Brandon Tanev except a better score 22 goals two years ago, 5 years younger, and feisty as hell….cmon Penguins.

We want sandpaper, grit, and get younger this is the player… Can score too !

      • I’m sure Hextall will find a taker for Zucker and Petersson…especially peterson..

Arizona needs young, reliable, affordable defenseman…….they also need to et to the cap floor.

They will be unloading OEL, wont be resigning Gologoski, and Dvorak so there is a place. Winnipeg is super desperate for defenseman, as are the LA Kings.

Do you see the schedule the Islanders open up with 13 straight on the road so they can finish up there new arena…..hopefully the get waxed..

      • Rumor is Burke and Hextall are on vacation, lol.

    • Both Vorachek & JVR off the team?

      where do i sign up?

Buff would probably want 1st to get rid of Vorachek even at 6.5m.

JVR for Holtby is a pipedream, they have petterson & hughes to resign.

      • Voracheck and Philly 1st for OEL ?

  7. Reinhardt…. who was on a 38 goal (82 game) pace on a very poor Sabres team… RFA….a speedy Rightie who can easily play and be equally proficient at C or RW …. 25 years old… for a prospect and a first….

I’d think many teams should show interest

Jackets have 3 firsts in the hopper

Knights have a first and a very low 2nd (NJ’s —- fourth of 2nd round… 35 th overall) and prospects in the pipeline

Smith (to balance some of Reinhardt’s cap hit coming in) + 1st (VGK) ; 2nd (NJ) and Duggan…. for Reinhardt??

    I don’t suppose Adam’s would take

Zucker; 1st in ‘22; and Lafferty for Reinhardt…. That would be GREAT!!!

    • Nobodys trading anything of value for Zucker without a serious sweetner added.

A nice little reminder of the Rutherford Experience.

    • Thinking the same thing. If he was in the market at his age, skill, and asking price… I think Ottawa would have been in on him. With at top 10 pick and some good young prospects, plus the cap space to sign longterm, they’d be all over him.

  8. I’d like to see Tyler Johnson on the Avalanche. I think he would be a great fit, especially at only a 5m cap hit.

  9. Signing Zach Hyman to a 7 or 8 year deal at 6/7 million dollars just reeks of Louie Eriksson Part Deaux.

    Buyer beware.

    • I agree. I’m having David Clarkson memories as a Leafs fan… lol

  10. To CMB: Eichel & Reinhart
To BUFF: Bjorkstrand, Tex, and 3 1sts this year

??? lopsided or balanced and to whom?

CMB gets their Centers they always wanted.

    Buffalo gets to rebuild

  11. What’s the scoop on Jake Bean???

Why are the Canes seemingly giving up on him already??

    • AZ needs young D perhaps there is something they want for bean & Foegle Like Kessel and a pick

Kessel will add additional scoring for their cup run.

      • ARizona can have young defenseman Marcus Petersson for a low draft pick !!

He is not physical, but he is steady, he is young, can offer some stability.

    • What we’ve heard here is that it’s Bean who wants out, not that CAR wants him out.

Not that I necessarily blame him – he’d been caught in a D logjam, and then exposed to the Kraken.

He clearly wasn’t a top-3 D worth protecting. And, if he was good enough to crack the top-6 consistently, he would have been in the top-6.

I assume he’s looking for a better opportunity, and I hope he finds it. However, CAR better get a good return to make it worthwhile.

      • Thanks Whalercane.

      • I don’t blame him for wanting out with Scrooge McDuck signing the pay checks. No way they should have moved Nedeljkovic. So you get a 3rd for him and use it to what – draft a young goalie – like Nedeljkovic??? Stevie Wonder weaving his magic in Hockeytown…

  12. To NJ: OEL & Dvorak
To AZ: #4, Subban and Zacha

  13. Just heard a strong rumor that the Flames will be signing Blake Coleman.

    • Hurricanes are making me scratch my head.. giving away their starting goalie, 25 years old, whose ceiling is high, for a 3rd rounder and a 32 year old backup .. is Mrazek really a better option as a starter? Yzerman signed Ned for 3m per, very reasonable cap hit… huge steal for Stevie Y, again!

Now they want to trade a D-man who has yet to hit his stride but already shows promise. Makes no sense!!

      • Augustus – on the G front, Nedeljkovic was likely headed to arbitration after they couldn’t agree on a reported $3.5M deal, and the Canes wanted no part of a $5M award (ala Binnington/Demko), so they would have walked away from that, leaving them with nothing. So they got what they could.

I don’t fault that part of the logic.

They didn’t see him as a starter – and that’s where the situation gets murky. Generally, the fans believe he IS a starter and would have been fine and a decent value at $3.5.

But you certainly aren’t paying what you deem to be a backup G $3.5M.

Personally, I’m on the fence – it all depends what they do with the $’s saved. Mrazek/Bernier/(insert name here) should be fine in the short term, if necessary; especially at the assumed cost.

And Bean wants out, reportedly, not that the Canes want him out. Assuming Hamilton is gone, their D has gone from a strength to a grave concern rather quickly.

      • I hear ya Augustus! Wouldn’t be surprised if Stevie Y calls them up again… lol

      • Whaler, thanks for the info.. I didn’t know about the arbitration factor with Ned, but surprised to hear they thought of him as a backup..

  14. How nice would the Canes looking with Price as their goalie….if only the Kraken selected him and trade him to CAR for Nedeljkovic, Foegle & Bean

    just sayin’…..

  15. To Montreal: Dvorak, the Pens 4th rder ’21 & the Blues 7th rder ’22.

To Arizona: Kulak, Ylonen , the Habs 1st rder ’21 & the Caps 3 rder ’21

    Then,

To Montreal: the rights to Savard & the Bolts 5th rder ’22

To Tampa: the Knights 4th rder ’21

  16. So for what it’s worth, the loss of Hyman will hurt the Leafs but adding him to a ridiculous contract both money and term will hurt the team more.

However the root of the problem is bad management decisions starting with breaking the bank with Tavares I’m on a 7 yr, 77 million contract with full NMC and then rewarding him with the captaincy.

That set the stage for Nylander holding out for whatever he could and then Matthews and Marner holding out for a robbery. Who gives that much money to bring these guys to UFA status where they’ll demand more once 31 other teams get in the bidding. It will be impossible to keep all of them.

The following shows what they got versus what I believe they are worth and the savings that could have been had:

    Tavares 11.0 per yr x7…..worth 8.0 per yr x 6 with no special clause…. Savings of 3.0

    Matthews. 11.6 per yr x5…..worth 10.5 per yr x8…..savings 1.1

    Marner. 10.9 per yr x6….worth 9.0 x 8…..savings 1.9

    Nylander 6.9 per yr x6…. Worth 5.8 x 6 …..savings 1.1

Total savings if they had been paid well but closer to what they are actually worth….7.1 million

Enough to sign a top 2 blueliner, two top 4 blueliners, top 3 forward or two top 6 forwards

    • Careful with that pragmatic approach Frank. It may be accurate as hell and damned hard to refute by other than “my-team-can-do-no-wrong” types – but they’ll try. And call you a “hater” in the process.

    • One thing that needs to be taken into consideration with you’re evaluation is the fact that the pandemic occurred causing the cap to stay straight and not grow. If the cap had grown the way is was trending before the pandemic Dumas wouldn’t be so hand strung and those contracts wouldn’t look so bad…

But – they do look bad. I don’t blame them for letting the core group take one more stab at it – after that they’ll likely have to move Marner – hopefully he plays better in next years playoffs not just to be worth more in a deal but making the team fair better in the playoffs.

Also – losing Tavares is being greatly overlooked. Yes – they should have been able to close out The Habs with a 3-1 series lead but losing JT made them a one line team and well – we all know what happened after that…

Not trying to make excuses – just trying to remind Leafs Nation that hind sight is 20-20…

      • oops – just noticing typos. “Dubas” and “hamstrung”

      • Agree on the pandemic part swiss2793.
Obviously nobody saw that coming so completely unfair to judge based on that.
The cap for last season was expected to be as much as $89M and at least $84M plus.
So saw it off at $86M for last year, then with the new US TV deal, it grows a bunch more. So we would be at at least $90M this season.
Looks a little different doesn’t it.
All reasonable assumptions that business make all the time. You don’t plan for a once in 100 year pandemic until it happens.

My B’s are lucky as they had contracts expiring, Leafs not so much.
But is what it is, judge on how they deal with it over the next few years. They decided to ride it for a couple years with the core.

  17. The Bruins should take a shot at Reinhardt for play 2nd line RW opposite of Hall (yes I think Hall gets done in Beantown).

Debrusk, zborill and 2nd or 3rd. That salary cleared by the bruins gets them Reinhardt signed to multi year deal.

  18. Risto traded to Philly.

    • Ya good move for both teams.

NYR now need to go after Suter and pair him with FOX and give Lindgren Lundqvist to work with on the 3rd unit. Can always alternate Suter & Lindgren through the game.

      • While I like the idea of Suter, why break up NY”s best d pairing in The process?

Ny would be better off pairing him with Trouba or even Lundqvist.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

      • Good points…. just spreading talent around.
        But Suter makes total sense.

  19. Not that I can ever be accused of being a TML apologist and centre of the universe media hype but the criticism is over the top.

With the number of teams in the league the chance to win the Stanley Cup is pretty small, the chance to get in the Final is pretty small too.

Loading up, paying big money for big talent shows the willingness of management to do what it takes in what everybody knows is a small window.

No team has the talent of Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander locked up together.

There was no way to foresee the salary cap freeze and there was every reason to count on it going up and being able to fill out the roster.

Teams that scraped to get to the cap floor had every advantage to stack up their teams and how did that work out for them?

Most of them failed miserably and didn’t get into the playoffs.

TML have had some strong regular seasons and both fans and haters need to accept it.

    • Yah, cause everybody knows its all about the regular season and the marshmallows padding their pond hockey stats in Toronto.

Success comes from playoff results, something Dubas and the Shanascam havent realized yet.

      • Ron Jull,

TBL were swept 4-0, marshmallows padding their pond hockey stats in Florida?

They added to their team with a rising cap, filled it out and play it any way you want, winning a Stanley Cup.

Played the cap and added more toughness to repeat.

It’s a process and TML management has a tight window to utilize the talent.

      • But all the while making damned sure that their goaltending and D remained their strength. And toughness up front.

Don’t even START to compare the Leafs with the Lightning.

      • Only thing the Lightning are padding is their Cup ring collection.

        Leafs? Not so much, lol.

    • habfan30 – wow! Appreciate the love. I agree 100%. Just ask Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski and Burns in SJ… Only one team can win. As your Habs showed the world – make the playoffs and anything can happen…

But George – you are right – Goaltending and D should be the foundation and build from there. I hope Jack Campbell is the second coming of Tim Thomas but I sure would feel better with a proven goalie in the stable too…

      • swiss2793,

I have no love for the TML but I hate the fingerpointing and schadenfreude.

TBL had Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, Vasilevskiy,
        while being swept 4-0
        while losing conference final
        while missing the playoffs
        while losing conference final.

All the while a rising salary cap to make adjustments,

If the media wouldn’t hype the heck out of the TML the haters wouldn’t be there in force.

I would rather my team tried to improve and spent the money than struggled to meet the cap floor while touting youth.

  20. I’m still confused re Reinhardt for only a first and a prospect

If I’m Francis… here is what I pitch

We’ll take Okposo off your hands; we’ll send you Blackwell; give you back Borgen; we give you the 2nd overall pick (now you have 1st and 2nd overall)

You give us Reinhardt; Flyer’s first (14th overall) ; Bruins 2nd (53rd overall)

    Francis the buys out Okposo

Sabres rid Okposo; gain Blackwell and get back Borgen; move up from 14th overall to 2nd overall… for Reinhardt and the 53rd overall Pick

Krakken then have their top 3 Cs…. In no particular order… Gourde, Reinhardt; McC and a 53rd overall….Cost… $4M cash (Okposo buyout) ; Borgen (who would be with their AHL club) Blackwell; and sliding down from 2nd overall to 14th

  21. Wow Philly gave up a lot for Risto a career minus player. 14th overall, Hagg, and a second round pick.

    Pavel Buchnevich to St. Louis..

  22. Hey Capt. What’s up with Drury?
First he way overpays for a third line grinder, who benefited from playing with two excellent players on a stacked team.

The he turns around and trades away a proven scorer (Buch), for a bag of pucks?

I guess St Louis didn’t want Strome.

    • cap space
fox and zib & Igor mainly but also Laf & Kakko wont come cheap upcoming years with Panarin , Trouba and kreider taking up big dollars already.

      he had no choice

  23. Just sittin’ here playing with my crystal balls & I see Bobby Orr becoming a Hab before the day is over tomorrow.

  24. Connor Garland & Eklund-Larsson to the Nucks.

Nucks dump Eriksson, Beagle & Roussel to the Yotes along with the #9 overall pick.

    Yotes are tankin’ big time.

  25. Bungling Jimmy strikes again.

One year of Eriksson at 6 million and the 9th overall pick for OEL and his six years at 8.25. Turfing Beagle and Roussel is a fortuitous move.

Trade saves Canucks about 5 million but now they need to sign Garland, Pettersson and Hughes which is going to run more than 15 million at my estimation.

Entire deal reeks of a desperate Save My Job manouver by Benning.

Not only that, Benning has made his Charmin Soft roster even more of a bunch of marshmallows

    Benning – schooled again. Pathetic.

Fans on 650am are shredding Benning over this deal, lmao.

Going to be embarrassing when the Nucks finish behind the Kraken in the standings.

  26. GPS tracker on the Sweeney mobile …. driving up 6A in Brewster MA looking for the Brewster Fish House

  27. TML Fab Four are eating up half the team cap and we are starting to see the ripple effects of this. Say goodbye to Hyman, and most other UFAs as lowball offers disguised as home discounts will send more packing.

And in the end they’ may deteriorate rather than improve every year. First round shameful exits until Matthews, Marner and Nylander hit UFA status and there will be 31 other teams (vultures) waiting.

Who will be left in the end?

John Tavares in his pajamas. And a collection of league minimum beer league stars.
